Family Support Worker
Monica Place, KW Counselling and Carizon Family and Community Services are planning to unify. As we begin to work more closely together, we are excited to share postings across all three organizations. The lead organization for this role is Carizon Family and Community Services.
POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Family Support Worker provides both consultation and intensive virtual and home-based family support to families with children from birth to age six. The Family Support Worker partners with families to identify treatment goals, identify and implement strategies, link to appropriate resources and provides crisis support as required. The Family Support Worker creates an environment where children, youth and their families can further their resilience and wellness and heal from the effects of trauma.
DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide client services in accordance with the guidelines of the Agency, including the Children’s Mental Health Service Philosophy
  • Provide family support to children and caregivers related to emotion management, attachment, behaviour and/or parenting strategies.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans in partnership with families, based on identified needs
  • Provide virtual and home-based support, including parent education and coaching, skill development, and promoting positive parent-child interactions
  • Assist families in finding appropriate resources and provide crisis support as required
  • Work collaboratively with team members, colleagues and community partners to support the family’s wellbeing
  • Communicate openly and honestly with families, staff and supervisor
  • Work autonomously within a multi-agency team context and in the community
  • To always perform work safely and in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA)
  • A flexible work schedule including evening hours is required
  • A valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle is required

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE:
  • Diploma or degree in Child and Youth Work, ECE or related discipline such as B.S.W. or Social Services Diploma
  • Membership within a professional association is preferred
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years successful field experience, or a minimum of 5 years relevant education and special experience or skills
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working with infants, toddlers, preschoolers and their caregivers
  • First Aid Certificate, CPR and WHMIS (required) certifications as special skills or training.
  • Sound understanding of early childhood development and infant, toddlers, preschoolers mental health.
  • Knowledge of and experience with attachment and trauma-informed therapeutic interventions
  • Knowledge of and experience working from an anti-oppressive practice approach
  • Ability and desire to collaborate with the community and other services
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written), interpersonal and conflict management skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and ability to work in an environment where juggling multiple demands and priorities is the norm
  • Proven experience working in a fast-paced environment and meeting deadlines
  • Proven experience working independently on own responsibilities as well as within a broader team providing excellent customer service
  • Ability to communicate in and provide client service in a second language is an asset.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada
  • Must provide a satisfactory police background check
