The lower Sunshine Coast is truly one of British Columbia\xe2\x80\x99s jewels. It is part of the Lower Mainland and is accessible by a 40-minute ferry ride from Horseshoe Bay. Against the backdrop of the Coastal and Tetrahedron Mountain Ranges, and surrounded by Howe Sound and the Salish Sea, the lower Sunshine Coast area is an outdoor enthusiast\xe2\x80\x99s dream. With miles upon miles of scenic pebble beaches and hundreds of kilometers of hiking and mountain biking trails that are open year-round, you will never want for outdoor adventure. The Sunshine Coast also boasts a vibrant arts community and a growing number of small businesses, including restaurants, farms, cideries, distilleries, and breweries.

The lower Sunshine Coast is home to over 30,000 people who live here full time. This number swells to more than 50,000 during the summer months, when the Sunshine Coast really lives up to its name. The majority of the population can be found in the towns of Gibsons, Sechelt and Pender Harbour, though there are numerous smaller communities along the way. The central town of Sechelt is part of the traditional territories of Sechelt Nation, who are integral to our community life and generously donated the land on which Sechelt Hospital is located.

Sechelt Hospital is a 50 bed acute care hospital with a 12 bed Emergency Department that serves the entire Sunshine Coast. The hospital provides acute surgical, medical, obstetrical, and psychiatric services and is supported by laboratory, diagnostic imaging (including CT and echocardiography), and rehabilitation services. The Coast is also home to seven private family practice clinics located up and down the Coast. Our community is supported by over 40 family physicians, as well as two general surgeons, two gynecologists, three internal medicine specialists, two ophthalmologists, one pediatrician, and three psychiatrists. We also have visiting specialist support in the areas of dermatology, nephrology, neurology, orthopedics, otolaryngology, physical medicine and rehab, respirology, and rheumatology.

We have two ORs and our surgical services currently include dentistry, general surgery (including endoscopy), obstetrics and gynecology, ophthalmology, psychiatry (ECT), and urology. We are actively expanding our surgical services to meet the needs of our community with a focus on improving access to local surgery.

Anesthetic duties for the successful candidate will include both elective and emergency surgery, as well as out of OR work on the Maternity Ward and in the Emergency Department. The Sechelt Anesthesia Group provides 24/7 on call coverage funded under MOCAP and you will be expected to share the call schedule within a four person rotation. Family practice work and emergency shifts are available if desired, but not required.

The Sechelt Anesthesia Group is paid under an Alternate Payment Plan (APP) contract arrangement, which provides very competitive remuneration relative to traditional Fee For Service billing. Upon joining the Sechelt Anesthesia Group, the successful candidate will be required to sign on to the APP Contract. Sechelt is designated a Level \xe2\x80\x9cC\xe2\x80\x9d Rural Community and the successful candidate may also be eligible for rural program benefits, including up to $15,000 of relocation funding, $10,000 of recruitment incentive, RRP flat fee $6,285.24 annually & fee premium 5.46%, and Funding for a site visit \xe2\x80\x93 up to $3500 for visiting physician (travel, meals, accommodation).
