About This Opportunity

Nova Scotia Health\'s Primary Health Care team is seeking two full-time family physicians to work as part of the Family Practice Coverage Team. Working with Nurse Practitioners and Family Practice Nurses, they will provide short term coverage to practices in Central Zone.

Members of the Family Practice Coverage Team will provide stabilization to practices with an identified need for short team coverage (3-12 weeks maximum) with the goal of providing continued access to patient care as sudden or unexpected absences occur. The Family Practice Coverage Team opportunity will also support additional identified needs across the primary care portfolio including but not limited to:

  • long term care
  • in-person virtual care visits
  • unattached newborn
An interim site is fully operational and located at 5990 Spring Garden Suite 520. A newly constructed permanent location is expected to completed by February 2024, While the clinic support is in community practices, the home location will be located in close proximity to the Mumford Community Practice.

This position reports to the Head, Department of Family Practice, Central Zone for their professional and clinical activities, and o the Director, Primary Health Care and Chronic Disease Management, Central Zone and the Manager, Halifax Start-Up Clinic for administrative activities delivered for the Program.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Examine patients and take their histories, order diagnostic tests and laboratory procedures; advise patients on health care, health promotion, and disease prevention

Consultation and referral to other medical practitioners\'

Act as a patient\'s advocate

Prescribe and administer medications and treatments, inoculations and vaccinations

Report births, deaths, contagious and other diseases as per Nova Scotia Public Health requirements
