Job Description

The Family CALP (Community Adult Literacy Program) at Literacy Quesnel Society focuses on supporting parents and caregivers in developing literacy and learning skills alongside their children. This role supports the delivery of family literacy programs and activities that are fun, engaging, and accessible.

Position Overview:



As a Family CALP Coordinator, you will assist in planning, setting up, and running literacy-based activities that encourage reading, communication, and skill-building for families. The goal is to support adults by providing strategies and tools they can use to encourage and strengthen literacy within the whole family.

Key Responsibilities:Program Delivery:



Provide one-on-one learning support and mentoring to all learners (regular attendees, walk-in, outreach, small group participants) as well as facilitate small group workshops/sessions Research and create learning materials for existing and new programs Fulfill general Family/CALP marketing duties as required, including: cold-calling,promotional appearances at events, interviews, create marketing materials, maintain social media presence, and update website/Facebook posts as appropriate Foster community partnerships and network with other organizations to promote Family/CALP Provide the following core programs, PJ Storytime, Family Focused Saturdays, Book Club, Books for Babies, StoryWalk, as well as new and upcoming programs Maintain the cleanliness of the Kids Corner Interact with people of all ages and all walks of life without judgment Work in collaboration with other LQS contractors to ensure seamless coordination of programming and information dissemination.

Qualifications & Skills:



Some post-secondary is preferred Experience working in a client-centered setting Strong English communication skills (written and spoken) Solid understanding of early years literacy (or willingness to learn) Experience in facilitating small group learning and workshops Understanding of literacy and essential skills development Experience working with caregivers and children Office skills (phone etiquette, e-mail, Word, Excel, Canva, etc.) Excellent writing skills Excellent organizational and time management abilities Ability to work independently and be self-directed but also work as part of a team Commitment to confidentiality and professional ethics
