The Centre for Family Literacy (CFL) is looking for a Director of Development. This role focuses on supporting the fundraising needs of the organization. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Development is a member of the Leadership Team, which is responsible for the overall management of the CFL. This is a full-time position (37.5hrs/week).

Role Responsibilities



Fundraising Strategy and Planning

Develop and implement comprehensive fundraising plans aligned with the strategic goals of the organization. Identify funding priorities and target donor segments (individuals, foundations, corporations, and government sources). Set annual fundraising targets and monitor progress toward goals.
Donor Cultivation and Relationship Management

Build and maintain relationships with major donors, corporate partners, foundations, and community stakeholders. Develop strategies for donor engagement, recognition, and retention. Manage stewardship activities to ensure donors understand the impact of their contributions.
Grant Writing and Management

Research, identify, and secure grants from government, private foundations, and other sources. Prepare compelling proposals, reports, and communications to funders. Monitor grant compliance and ensure timely reporting on outcomes.
Event Planning and Campaigns

Oversee fundraising events, campaigns, and appeals that support organizational goals. Collaborate with staff and volunteers to maximize donor engagement and revenue generation. Analyze event and campaign effectiveness to inform future initiatives.
Leadership and Skill Development

Lead and mentor staff and volunteers across the organization in fund development efforts. Provide training and support to staff and board members on fundraising best practices.
Board and Committee Engagement

Partner with the Board of Directors and committee members to identify and cultivate potential donors. Provide regular fundraising updates and performance reports. Equip board and committee members to act as ambassadors and advocates for fundraising initiatives.
Communications and Marketing Support

Collaborate with staff to develop compelling donor materials and messaging. Highlight the impact of literacy programs through stories, data, and case studies. Ensure consistent brand messaging across fundraising initiatives.
Monitoring and Reporting

Track fundraising metrics and ROI for all campaigns and initiatives. Prepare regular financial and progress reports for leadership and the board. Use data to inform strategy adjustments and continuous improvement.
Overall Organizational Expectations

Demonstrate initiative in supporting the organization's vision, mission and values. Contribute to internal organizational culture. Participate in training and professional development opportunities (internal and external). Other duties as required.

Competencies, Education & Experience



A combination of experience in fund development and education in a related field that together demonstrate your ability to succeed in this role. Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) designation is an asset. Leadership and strategy experience in a not-for-profit or mission-driven environment. Strong analytical skills, great attention to detail, and excellent written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated ability to achieve outcomes and meet deadlines. Ability to work in a high-performing and results oriented environment. A positive and conscientious approach to teamwork. Experience overseeing budget preparation and ensuring financial accountability. Tech-savvy and confident using a variety of tools including Google Workspace (Drive, Docs, Sheets, etc.), Mac/Apple OS, data management systems, online meeting platforms, and email marketing tools, as well as an ability to implement new tools for the purposes of reaching donors in a digital age.

Full-Time Permanent Position (37.5 hours per week) Start Date:Week of January 12, 2026. Salary Range: $60,000-$70,000/year. Benefits:Generous paid time off (3 weeks vacation (to start), 2 weeks in December/January for our holiday closure, half day Fridays in July and August, stat and additional holidays, your birthday, 1 week of job-related professional development, 2 weeks sick leave).
