Family Law Legal Assistant

Job Description

Our firm is seeking an intermediate to senior legal assistant to join our Family Law team. We are a well-established Family and Estate Law firm dedicated to helping clients find fair, effective, and practical solutions through mediation, arbitration, and litigation.

The ideal candidate will bring strong administrative and organizational skills, along with prior experience as a legal assistant. While Family Law or Estate Law experience is not required, it would be considered a definite asset.

Key Responsibilities



Provide legal assistant support to associates and partners, and assist other team members as needed. Prepare and manage correspondence with clients, opposing counsel, and the courts. Draft and format memos, agreements, court documents, and spreadsheets. Transcribe dictation accurately and efficiently. Manage lawyers' schedules, including meetings, court appearances, and deadlines. Compile and organize disclosure materials. Schedule meetings and coordinate with other law offices. Manage file opening, closing, and organization. Prepare boardrooms for meetings and assist with general office upkeep as needed. Handle mail, faxing, emailing, and document filing. Perform bank deposits and cheque requisitions, including trust deposits. Track assistant time and support billing processes using Soluno. Use Actionstep for scheduling, matter management, and document precedents. Provide assistance to other assistants and lawyers during busy periods or staff absences. Perform other duties as assigned by Partners or the Office Manager.

Knowledge, Experience & Skills



Minimum 3 years of experience as a Legal Assistant. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel) and Adobe Acrobat or Foxit PDF. Experience with NetDocuments, Actionstep and Soluno is an asset. Familiarity with Family Law and Estate Law processes and documentation. Knowledge of Notice to Disclose requirements and document organization. Strong written and verbal communication skills and professional interpersonal manner. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Exceptional attention to detail, time management, and organization. Commitment to confidentiality and professionalism in client interactions.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $55,000.00-$75,000.00 per year
