Position Summary
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented
Family Law Clerk
to join our team. The successful candidate will support our family law division in all aspects of client matters, including case preparation, document drafting, and file management. This role requires excellent communication skills, discretion, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Draft, prepare, and review family law documents, including:
Applications, Answers, Financial Statements, Motions, Case Conference Briefs, Settlement Conference Briefs, and Separation Agreements.
Manage client files from intake to resolution, ensuring accuracy and compliance with court rules.
Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, courts, and third parties in a professional and timely manner.
Coordinate and schedule meetings, mediations, case conferences, and court appearances.
Conduct legal research and prepare summaries for lawyer review.
Assist with disclosure requests and the organization of financial documents.
Monitor and maintain deadlines, limitation periods, and hearing dates.
Prepare and maintain billing records, accounts, and file documentation.
Provide general administrative support to the lawyer, including correspondence, filing, and data entry.
Qualifications
Law Clerk Diploma or equivalent education in legal studies.
Minimum 2-3 years of experience as a Family Law Clerk in Ontario.
Strong knowledge of the
Family Law Rules
, court processes, and related legislation (Family Law Act, Divorce Act, Children's Law Reform Act).
Proficiency with legal software ( PC Law/Clio, MS Office Suite).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple files and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
