Closing Date: April 28, 2023 Yukon University at the Ayamdigut campus in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, Canada, is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team in the School of Science. The successful candidate will be responsible for the development and instruction of university-level courses in a wide variety of topics, including first-year Geography, Environmental Science, Resource Management and/or Land Management at the first year and second-year levels, but will also be comfortable developing material and instructing at advanced levels. Applicants should have a PhD completed in the area of instruction (or a very closely related topic), for example in physical geography, climate science, natural resource management, land management, or environmental science. A candidate with an master\xe2\x80\x99s degree will be considered if combined with extensive relevant experience. The successful candidate must show evidence of, or capacity for, excellence in teaching and supervision of under-graduate students (of all levels), enthusiasm for research in relevant subject areas or the practice of teaching and learning, and will have expertise in lab-based activities, hands-on practical activities conducted on the land, outdoor leadership, computer science, and some experience with data analysis. The successful applicant will be comfortable instructing students with varied backgrounds and skill levels using varied instructional techniques important in northern and small communities, with students potentially accessing learning materials remotely. The successful applicant will be expected to participate and contribute whenever possible to university service, such as committees and governance, faculty meetings, events, reconciliation and Indigenization activities and initiatives. Experience in the following will be considered assets:
  • teaching post-secondary courses in applied sciences and/or resource management in a dynamic environment,
  • an understanding and basic knowledge of northern First Nations,
  • experience working with indigenous and culturally diverse students,
  • teaching experience using alternative delivery formats,
  • research in applied sciences, land management and/or the scholarship of teaching and learning.
