Reporting to the Senior Manager, Facility Services, the Facility Services Tradesperson supports planning, organizing, and completing maintenance and repair service in all SPL library facilities. This position is primarily responsible for performing inspection, preventive maintenance and repairs to ensure structural integrity, safety, and a welcoming environment on library facilities and grounds.
The Facility Services Tradesperson collaborates with SPL Facility Services team members, SPL employees, and external service providers to plan, coordinate, and complete facility maintenance, repair and improvement projects. This position identifies repair and maintenance needs, procures resources, monitors facility issues, recommends policy changes, and supports navigation of unexpected situations or emergencies.
The Facility Services Tradesperson performs all duties while ensuring alignment with the framework of SPL's corporate culture as embodied by the vision, mission, values, goals and objectives outlined in the Strategic Plan.
The Facility Services Tradesperson may be required to adjust work priorities and assume responsibility for the portfolios covered by other Facility Services team members in order to align with strategic priorities, including providing temporary operational oversight of SPL Facility Services in the absence of the Senior Manager, Facility Services.
This position is required to address after-hours emergencies when necessary.
Qualifications
Valid Saskatchewan Journeyperson Carpenter Certificate.
Minimum of five years of carpentry experience in construction, industrial, commercial, or public service settings within the last 10 years.
Experience in a wide variety of facility and grounds maintenance tasks, both indoor and outdoor.
Experience in estimating costs, planning, and organizing maintenance or construction projects.
Ability to read, interpret and follow blueprints, plans, project plans, and specifications in print and digital format.
WHMIS, Confined Space, Fall Protection and Aerial Lift Platforms, Asbestos Awareness,
Valid Saskatchewan Class 5 driver's license with a clean SGI Driver's Abstract.
Ability to transport building materials and small furniture items to and between SPL locations as needed.
Proficiency in using technology including email, Microsoft Office suite, and software solutions for drafting, space planning, invoicing, maintenance planning, asset management, and others as required.
Ability to stand, sit, walk, bend, and reach for an extended period of time.
Ability to lift, push, pull up to 75 lbs (frequently) and up to 100 lbs (occasionally).
Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, indoors, and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Capability to be on-call and respond to after hours emergencies.
Ability to work with a wide variety of hand tools, power tools, equipment, and building materials.
Demonstrated expertise in the stated accountabilities and competencies.
A current, acceptable Criminal Record check.
Additional trade certificates or diplomas, including power engineering, plumbing or drafting would be assets.
Training and knowledge of lock smithing is an asset
