Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting applications for One (1) permanent Full-Time position of Facilities Supervisor with the department of Transit Fleet, Halifax Transit.

Under the general direction of Halifax Transit, the Facilities Supervisor provides expert advice and support in the operation, maintenance and servicing of Halifax Transit's facilities.



Along with being responsible for overseeing the condition of Halifax Transit Centres and the bus and ferry terminals, the Facilities Supervisor is responsible for the supervision of building maintenance ATU personnel, the efficient and effective operation of Halifax Transit facilities the development of preventative maintenance plans to ensure optimal condition and operation of assets long-term. To meet the daily challenges of this dynamic environment, the Facilities Supervisor will be a liaison with Property, Fleet & Environment employees, Halifax Transit employees, vendors and contractors in the performance of facility maintenance, scheduling of workplace/inspections, allocation of equipment, parts acquisitions as well as life cycle decisions.



DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



Leadership

Leads a team, ensures personnel have a clear understanding of their roles and responsibilities and facilitates change and continuous improvement to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the department. Promotes and ensures safety standards are adhered to and is responsible for the administration of obligations under OH&S and Labour Code: conducts inspections, coaches and informs, develops, and reviews standard operating procedures, and acts in the event of incidents. Facilitates monthly meetings with key internal stakeholders to ensure all Halifax Transit departments are aligned on facility maintenance work.

Performance Management

Directs, coaches, assigns, and monitors the work of staff, encourages staff development, takes disciplinary action as required, and interprets/applies corporate policies and the Collective Agreement. Works with the procurement team to manage the performance of vendors and ensure all issues are rectified within the warranty period. Interacts sensitively and respectfully with diverse individuals and groups.

Service Delivery

Responsible for ensuring all internal and external Halifax Transit facilities and equipment associated with transit operations are in good working order. Responsible for designing and administering preventative maintenance tasks for both facilities and bus maintenance equipment. Assists in the development of specifications for the tendering of equipment, components, parts and services related to building maintenance, including establishing repair procedures and standards for new equipment. Suggest projects for equipment overhaul or replacement in advance for the preparation of capital and operational budgets. Responsible for the inspection of tendered equipment and supervision of contracted facility work/projects to ensure compliance with specifications. Provides frequent communication to the Fleet Controller and other Halifax Transit departmental leadership on the status of facilities and equipment, must have a strong customer service orientation, and responds to escalated concerns. Assists in the preparation of departmental business and budget plans, aids in insourcing and outsourcing decisions for repairs based on internal skills competencies and workload. Generates detailed records and reports as required and ensures information is complete and accurate in the Maintenance Management System. Collaborates with Property, Fleet & Environment Operations staff to coordinate Facility work order requests through City works, also assists in maintaining facility equipment data to support the Asset Management Office in the collection of Asset Registry data. Provide back-up support to the other Facilities Supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:



Education and Experience:



Interprovincial Mechanical Trade Certification, and/or BOMA FMA Facility Management Administration designation. A suitable combination of education and experience may be considered. Experience supervising staff in a unionized environment. A minimum of 5 years' experience in Facility Maintenance. A minimum of 2 years' Supervisory experience of staff and/or contractors. A Valid Driver's license. General knowledge and some formal training in contract management are considered an asset. May perform other related duties as assigned.

Security Clearance Requirements:

Successful candidates will be required to complete an employment security screening check

WORK STATUS:

Permanent, full-time.



HOURS OF WORK:

7:00am - 3:30pm Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week. May require occasional overtime based on operational requirements



SALARY:

$87,872. This position is part of the NSGEU Local 107 bargaining unit
