Job Summary

Key responsibilities include calculating material, labor, and equipment costs, working with vendors to get quotes, preparing bid proposals, communicating with engineers, and project managers to ensure projects stay on budget and schedule.

Tasks:

oCost estimation: Prepare detailed cost estimates for materials, labor, and equipment for mechanical projects.

oPlan analysis: Review project plans, specifications, and drawings to understand the project's scope and material requirements

oCollaboration: Work closely with engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate estimates and budget adherence.

oVendor and subcontractor management: Solicit bids and quotes from vendors and subcontractors and negotiate prices.

oBid preparation: Prepare and submit comprehensive bid proposals for projects. Ensure timely proposal submission and manage post-bid clarifications. Investigate cost saving alternatives.

oSite visits: Conduct pre & post bid site visits as required.

oPersonnel planning: Prepare preliminary work schedules

oRisk assessment: Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies for projects.

oBudget tracking: Monitor and report on project budgets and expenditures.

oDatabase management: Develop and maintain databases of historical cost data for future estimates.

oPreparing changes to costs estimates when customers change their plans, or when the availability of materials or labour changes Required Qualifications Knowledge/Education & Experience:

Certificate Required?

oEstimating experience: Minimum 5 years' experience with general contracting industrial projects, material handling fabrication or related industries considered an asset.

oEngineering Knowledge: Broad understanding of various engineering disciplines.

oSoftware Proficiency: Intermediate proficiency in software tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.o

Interpretation Skills: Ability to interpret detailed information from engineering firms, subcontractors, and vendors for multi-disciplinary scopes.

oCWB Codes Knowledge: Familiarity with CWB Codes for Structure fabrication

oCompliance Awareness: Understanding of Quality and Safety compliance costs.

oTime Management: Excellent time management skills.

oCommunication Skills: Strong communication skills.

oWork Ethic: Strong work ethic and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

oTrade ticket or post-secondary education considered an asset

Skills and Abilities?

oStrong understanding of mechanical systems, metal fabrication (Machining / Welding)

oMaintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standards and best practices.

oProficiency with estimating software and tools.

oStrong analytical and problem-solving skills.

oExcellent communication and interpersonal skills.

oAttention to detail and ability to work with large amounts of data.

oDevelop and improve procedures, databases, cost models, templates, and tools for cost estimation.

Hours: 40 hours per week with possibility of project-based overtime
