Position Overview
The Exterior Sign Designer & Project Coordinator supports the design, documentation, and coordination of exterior signage projects from concept through installation. This role blends creative design with practical coordination skills -- ensuring designs meet AROH's standards for quality, compliance, and aesthetic excellence while keeping projects organized, on track, and aligned with client expectations.
The position requires strong design sensibility, material knowledge, and the ability to collaborate closely with clients, vendors, fabricators, and internal teams to deliver exterior signage solutions that exemplify AROH's purpose: "Wayfinding Where Design Matters."
Key Responsibilities:
Design & Creative Development
Develop exterior signage concepts that align with client brands, architecture, and AROH standards.
Prepare presentation drawings, renderings, and material samples for client approval.
Ensure designs meet visual, functional, and environmental requirements.
Technical Detailing & Documentation
Create detailed design drawings and sign specifications suitable for fabrication.
Assemble complete permit packages including plans, elevations, and specifications.
Ensure designs comply with building codes, accessibility standards (AODA), and local regulations.
Permit Coordination
Prepare and submit permit applications to municipalities and other authorities.
Track progress, follow up on comments, and coordinate revisions as required.
Maintain organized documentation for all permit-related communications.
Vendor & Fabricator Coordination
Communicate with vendors and fabricators to obtain pricing, material options, and feasibility input.
Coordinate production details to ensure fabrication aligns with approved design intent.
Support installation coordination to ensure the final product meets design and quality expectations.
Client & Team Communication
Serve as a day-to-day contact for clients, ensuring clear and timely updates.
Collaborate with the internal design, production, and operations teams to align deliverables and timelines.
Support project meetings and client presentations as needed.
Project Coordination
Assist in maintaining project schedules, deliverables, and budgets.
Track time and tasks against project budgets for accountability.
Support documentation flow between departments to ensure smooth project progression.
Quality & Standards
Uphold AROH's design and quality standards in all deliverables.
Proactively identify issues or inconsistencies in drawings, materials, or specifications.
Ensure all documentation and visuals reflect AROH's professional standards.
Accountabilities
Delivering high-quality, compliant exterior sign designs that meet client and AROH standards.
Coordinating all design documentation and permit submission requirements accurately and on time.
Maintaining clear, proactive communication with clients, vendors, and internal teams.
Tracking and managing design timelines and deliverables to stay within budget and schedule.
Ensuring fabrication and installation outcomes align with approved designs.
Maintaining accurate records and organized documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
Qualifications:
Diploma or degree in Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Architectural Technology, or Environmental Design.
2-5 years of experience in signage design, environmental graphics, or architectural design coordination.
Skilled in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) and AutoCAD (or similar drafting software).
Strong understanding of materials, fabrication methods, and installation processes for exterior signage.
Familiar with building codes, AODA accessibility standards, and municipal permit requirements.
Excellent communication and client service skills, with the ability to collaborate across design, operations, and fabrication teams.
Highly organized and detail-oriented, able to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
Creative problem-solver with a passion for design that's both functional and visually compelling.
Experience in preparing permit drawings, specifications, and documentation is an asset.
Valid driver's license (for site visits or permit submissions).

Pay: $58,000.00-$62,000.00 per year
