Extension and Outreach Coordinator
The Extension and Outreach Coordinator position is a new role within Manitoba Pork Council?s staff team. The position will be permanent, full time, based out of the Council?s Winnipeg office.
The successful candidate will serve as an educator, an information provider, a needs assessor, and a problem-solving resource for hog farmers across Manitoba.
While the position will report to the Director of Quality Assurance and Animal Care, the Extension and Outreach Coordinator will work collaboratively with all staff at Manitoba Pork Council. Key outreach responsibilities will focus on consulting with producers on:
? Disease mitigation / biosecurity efforts;
? Canadian Pork Excellence (CPE) programs ;
? Regulatory requirements (e.g., farm safety, nutrient management)
? Public trust initiatives;
? Training opportunities;
? Emergency preparedness; and
? Practical impact of research funded by Manitoba Pork.
The Extension and Outreach Coordinator will use pig farm and business visits to remain knowledgeable of the evolving needs of Manitoba?s hog sector. The position will require significant travel (driving) within Manitoba, with two to three days per week on the road and at least one day per week in the office.
A key part of the role of the Extension and Outreach Coordinator will be listening to producers, serving as a conduit for producer feedback to Manitoba Pork, and gathering key data and information to empower Manitoba Pork to better serve producers? needs. The role will require diligent note-taking, report-writing, and dataset management.
The Extension and Outreach Coordinator will also develop and deliver presentations and participate in the development of other extension and outreach materials.
Key Qualifications
The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal and communication skills. They will have a good understanding of hog production in Manitoba and the challenges and opportunities facing the swine sector.
The Extension and Outreach Coordinator will have strong writing and presentation abilities, be self-motivated, and will always conduct themselves professionally.
The individual should have at least four years of satisfactory professional job-related experience in the Western Canadian hog sector. A diploma or bachelor?s degree in agriculture or related area is desirable. They must have and maintain a valid driver?s license. The role requires good experience using MS Word and Excel, and preferably working in databases.
The salary range will be $60,000 to $80,000, depending on the successful candidate?s qualifications, with competitive benefits.
