Metro Vancouver Indigenous Counselling (MVIC) provides culturally safe, trauma-informed mental health services to individuals, couples, and families throughout British Columbia. Our team of Indigenous and ally counsellors is committed to improving access to care and supporting healing in Indigenous communities.

The Opportunity



We are seeking an

experienced Family & Couples Counsellor

with a

Master of Social Work (MSW)

degree to join our practice. This role is ideal for a clinician who wants to build a private practice while working with a supportive team. The position focuses primarily on couples counselling, with opportunities to support individual clients as well.

Key Responsibilities



Conduct comprehensive client histories and assessments, including suitability for services through the First Nations Health Authority (FNHA). Provide culturally safe, trauma-informed couples and individual counselling. Maintain accurate records of client interactions and charting notes. Collaborate with partner agencies to ensure continuity of care. Make referrals to external resources and maintain communication with care teams.

Qualifications



Master of Social Work (MSW) degree. Registered, or in the process of registering, with the

BC College of Social Workers

. Completion of

San'yas Indigenous Cultural Safety Training

Ability to obtain liability insurance with a minimum of $2,000,000 coverage before start date. Availability to see a minimum of

16 clients per week

. Strong understanding of Indigenous cultures, trauma-informed practice, and culturally responsive approaches from a biopsychosocial and spiritual perspective. Experience managing caseloads, assessments, referrals, and electronic health records.

Responsibilities:



Conducting initial client history and assessment to determine suitability for mental health services through First Nations Health Authority Delivery of individual mental health counselling in relation to client symptoms Maintaining records of client interactions and charting notes Collaborating with partner agencies when appropriate, ensuring continuation of client care Providing referrals to outside agencies when appropriate and engaging in ongoing discussions with external client care teams

Assets



Knowledge of both Indigenous healing practices and Western approaches to wellness Training in couples counselling, family counselling, and other counselling modalities Training and experience in mainstream counselling techniques

Compensation



Rate for 67/33 split: counsellors retain 67% of collected session fees. Full caseload anticipated within six months of hire (note: credentialing with insurers may take up to two months).
