Compass CPA is not your typical accounting firm. Based in Sudbury, Ontario, we provide cloud-based bookkeeping, tax, and advisory services to clients across the province. We work closely with small to medium-sized business owners--particularly those who have historically been underserved--and help them gain clarity, confidence, and control over their finances.
We believe reliable bookkeeping is the foundation of effective tax planning and business strategy. When the books are right, everything else flows from there.
About the Role
We're looking for someone who loves technology and sees cloud software not as a hurdle--but as a toolbox. Someone who takes ownership of their work, takes pride in solving problems, and isn't afraid to take initiative when something doesn't look right.
The successful candidate will work on-site in our Sudbury office and be responsible for full-cycle bookkeeping and payroll processing using leading cloud software.
You'll collaborate with a team that values precision, communication, and client care--and you'll play a key role in delivering high-quality financial information that helps clients make better decisions.
Your Responsibilities Will Include:
Posting transactions from receipt management software to QBO or Xero
Reconciling bank, credit card, and loan accounts
Processing payroll, including pension/benefits, advances, and ROEs
Tracking prepaid expenses and deferred revenue
Filing GST/HST and WSIB returns
Handling multi-currency bookkeeping and month-end revaluations
Supporting year-end close
Communicating with clients and the CRA as needed
Cleaning up and catching up client files; converting legacy systems to cloud-based software
Helping clients adopt bookkeeping apps and processes with confidence
What You Bring to the Table:
Minimum 3 years full-cycle bookkeeping experience, including multi-industry exposure
Minimum 1 year payroll experience, preferably using Wagepoint and/or PayWorks
QBO Advisor certification (QBO Advanced Advisor preferred)
Xero Advisor certification
Proficiency with Dext, Hubdoc, and cloud-based tools
Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and organization
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
A helpful, coachable, and collaborative attitude
You're naturallycurious and tech-savvy--you enjoy learning new tools and getting the most out of them.
You take initiative and don't wait to be told what to do--you look for ways to improve processes, fix gaps, and help clients before they ask.
