Join our team at ROM and consider a fulfilling career as an Exhibition AV Technician.POSITION SUMMARY:The Exhibition AV Technician is pivotal in elevating the immersive experience within our exhibition galleries and various public spaces, including meeting rooms and theatres. Tasked with installing, operating, and meticulously maintaining state-of-the-art audiovisual and show control systems, this individual ensures all AV equipment\'s seamless performance and exceptional quality. As a critical team member, the technician will work Wednesday through Sunday, with the flexibility required for occasional evening and holiday shifts to accommodate our dynamic event schedule. This position is essential for maintaining the highest standards of presentation and functionality, contributing significantly to the overall visitor experience.RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure audiovisual systems always operate efficiently, strictly adhering to predefined on/off operational schedules to support exhibition requirements.
  • Conduct thorough and frequent monitoring of AV equipment within exhibition and gallery spaces, prioritizing temporary exhibitions to ensure minimal downtime and optimal functionality.
  • Work closely with the Manager of Digital Media Productions to swiftly arrange necessary replacements or repairs, ensuring continuous operation and high-quality presentation of AV systems.
  • Promptly notify the Manager, Digital Media Productions and the SVP of Exhibition and Gallery Planning about system downtimes or urgent repair needs. Employ expert troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve issues, proactively identify potential points of failure and develop strategic solutions to prevent future problems.
  • Engage in regular inspections and maintenance activities, ensuring all AV systems\' long-term reliability and quality performance within the exhibition and gallery spaces.
  • Installed and configured audiovisual hardware across exhibitions and galleries, ensuring all systems were accurately programmed to meet the Royal Ontario Museum\'s operational requirements and enhance visitor experience.
  • Assist in maintaining a comprehensive inventory of ROM\'s audiovisual assets, working collaboratively with external AV contractors. This includes managing portable inventory and the permanent AV installations across various museum venues, ensuring all equipment is accounted for and maintained to high standards.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A College Diploma (2 years) in technical theatre, radio and television broadcasting, audio engineering, AV event staging/operations, or AV maintenance. Alternatively, an equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.
  • A minimum of three (3) to under five (5) years of related work experience in technical production or audio-visual services, focusing on live sound engineering.
  • A comprehensive understanding and hands-on experience with a wide range of audio, projection, lighting, and computer equipment are required.
  • Demonstrated expertise in using and maintaining a wide range of audiovisual hardware, including touch screens, digital media players, projectors, monitors, audio systems, and video wall display technologies.
  • Profound knowledge of various AV software technologies, encompassing show control monitoring and AV control/programming software.
  • Knowledge of current PC/MAC operating systems, alongside relevant administration and multimedia applications, is essential to ensure seamless integration and functionality of AV systems.
  • Strong proven communication and interpersonal abilities, with the skill to effectively implement appropriate protocols, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects within tight deadlines.
  • Willingness and ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate the museum\'s dynamic schedule. This includes readiness for exhibition monitoring and pre-work outside standard public operating hours, with schedules potentially extending to midnight or early mornings before the museum opens.
