Hours of Work:

Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with flexibility to provide coverage across all shifts as needed.



SUMMARY



The Vice President, Fleet Maintenance provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for Erb Transport Limited fleet and asset management programs. This role is accountable for developing and executing cost-effective strategies that ensure safety, reliability, and performance excellence across all divisions. Overseeing all aspects of fleet procurement, maintenance, lifecycle management, and disposal, the Vice President, Fleet Maintenance drives innovation in asset management, technology integration, and vendor partnerships. The position also leads fleet capital planning, maintenance standards, facility operations, and cost optimization initiatives that support Erb's goals for operational excellence, sustainability, and continued growth.



PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Leadership & Planning

Lead the development and execution of long-term fleet and asset management strategies that align with corporate objectives and operational growth plans. Partner with the Executive Leadership Team to define capital investment priorities, lifecycle renewal programs, and fleet expansion initiatives. Provide strategic recommendations to the President and Board of Directors on fleet performance, technology adoption, and cost efficiency opportunities.

Fleet Operations & Maintenance Oversight

Oversee the procurement, servicing, maintenance, and repair of all fleet vehicles - including tractors, trailers, reefers, vans, and automobiles. Ensure standardized maintenance practices and procedures are implemented across all terminals, maintaining consistency in training, scheduling, and use of computerized maintenance systems. Conduct terminal visits to evaluate performance, compliance, and operational consistency.

Financial Management & Cost Optimization

Develop and manage the annual fleet maintenance and capital budgets in collaboration with the Vice President of Finance and Administration and President. Analyze fleet operating costs, maintenance trends, and repair data to identify cost-saving and efficiency opportunities. Ensure high-value asset utilization and optimal return on investment through proactive lifecycle management and asset disposal strategies.

Vendor, Contract, and Asset Management

Lead vendor selection, contract negotiation, and relationship management with third-party service providers, equipment manufacturers, and leasing companies. Collaborate with internal leaders - including the Corporate Parts & Warranty Manager and Tire & Used Equipment Coordinator - to manage parts inventory, tire programs, and warranty recovery. Oversee the sale and disposal of used equipment to maximize residual value and support sustainable practices.

Compliance, Safety & Risk Management

Ensure all fleet and facility operations comply with applicable legislation, safety standards, and environmental regulations. Champion safety programs that reinforce a culture of responsibility and proactive risk management. Partner with the Fleet Accident Claims department to review and authorize major accident repairs, assess equipment condition, and support salvage or total loss recovery efforts.

People Leadership

Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of fleet and maintenance professionals across all terminals. Promote a culture of accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement through performance management, mentorship, and training programs. Foster collaboration between departments, ensuring clear communication and alignment of priorities.

Technology & Innovation

Advance the integration of computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and fleet telematics to improve data-driven decision-making. Identify and implement emerging technologies that enhance fleet efficiency, safety, and sustainability.

Other Duties

Perform additional responsibilities as directed by the President to support company objectives.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Transportation Management, Business Administration, or a related field, or an acceptable combination of education and relevant experience is required. Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in fleet operations and management, with demonstrated leadership in maintenance, asset management, and operational planning. Certified Class 310T, 310J and or 313A is considered an asset. Proven experience leading large-scale fleet operations, preferably in a multi-terminal or logistics environment. Strong financial acumen with experience managing capital budgets and negotiating major procurement contracts. Demonstrated success in implementing cost-saving and performance improvement initiatives. In-depth knowledge of transportation industry regulations, maintenance practices, and fleet technologies. Exceptional leadership, communication, and project management skills. Ability to collaborate effectively with senior executives, operational teams, and external partners.

Proficiency in computerized maintenance systems and fleet analytics tools.



WORKING CONDITIONS

Minimum 45 hours per week with required travel to Erb terminals across Canada. Additional hours may be required during peak operational periods or major projects. Work may involve occasional exposure to loud noises, dust, dirt, and varying weather conditions while working in or around the shop and yard areas. On-call for emergencies and is required to respond to urgent issues outside of regular business hours.
