Salary range for the position is $206,722 to $$284,243. Annual salary is pro-rated for Part-Time positions. Interior Health establishes salaries within the minimum and maximum of the salary range based on consideration of the qualifications, experience of the applicant, and an internal equity review of the salaries of other employees.
How will you create an impact

The Executive Medical Director (EMD) Medical Affairs and Medical Staff Resource Planning provides senior medical administrative input into decision-making regarding strategic and operational matters of the Medicine Portfolio.
Reporting to the VP Medicine, the EMD works in dyad relationships with the Executive Director, Medical Affairs and Executive Director, Medical Strategy and Recruitment, and provides support to operational partners and medical leaders across IH. The EMD provides direction and leadership in the design, development and implementation of processes and administrative functions that enable medical leadership and the Health Authority Medical Advisory Committee structure to effectively fulfil their mandate(s). This includes credentialing & privileging, medical staff resource planning, recruitment, medical staff support and review processes.
The EMD builds the capacity for effective medical staff governance, integrated and strategic leadership, and physician engagement. To improve the quality of medical care within Interior Health (IH), the EMD collaborates directly with medical staff, other healthcare professionals, VP portfolios, committees, and medical governance groups.
What will you work on
:
Participates in the development and implementation of the strategic plan for the VP, Medicine Portfolio and works collaboratively with VP portfolios on the development and implementation of strategic and operational plans. Supports policy development and reviews relevant for medical staff.
Provides present and compassionate medical leadership for the reporting medical leadership structure, including recruitment, engagement, contract management, performance monitoring and review, professional development, medical staff workforce plans, and succession plans.
Manages the assigned budget and administers the resources therein.
In collaboration with Medicine Portfolio leadership team and the Health Authority Medical Advisory Committee (HAMAC) Executive, supports the development of an IH medical staff resource plan (MSRP). Leads the development of process and best practices for ensuring that the MSRP is evidence-informed and aligned to patient care needs
Supports implementation and management of alternate care providers, such as Associate Physicians and Physician Assistants, throughout the organization, in alignment with provincial direction and IH strategic priorities.
In collaboration with the Executive Director, Medical Strategy & Recruitment, actively supports the recruitment of Medical Staff by consistently applying IH policies and providing pertinent HHR advice. This includes development and implementation of IH plans for internationally trained medical graduates under the UBC Return of Service and Practice Readiness Assessment programs.
Ensures implementation of standardized and effective credentialing & privileging and performance review processes in compliance with the IH Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules, and Policies.
Ensures standardized medical staff impact assessments processes are in place to support site administrative/medical leaders and appropriately inform the MSRP.
Provides regional leadership direction in the development and implementation of effective physician compensation strategies to support sustainable clinical service delivery and workforce planning.
Supports the development and oversight of appropriate IH occupational health & safety programs for Medical Staff and Resident Doctor, in partnership with IH Workplace Health & Safety. Provides medical leadership direction to maintain a healthy and safe work environment through complying with and implementing applicable Occupational Health and Safety Regulation, responding to requests from WSBC, identifying hazards and communicating risks, ensuring compliance with employee training, conducting effective incident investigations, and implementing required corrective actions.
Supports that the management of physician-related issues, including patient safety or performance concerns, in accordance with the IH Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and policies.
Provides mentorship and support for local medical leaders, as required, to ensure consistent processes and implementation of the IH Performance Management Toolkit, policies and processes.
Partners with other medical and operational leaders to address and manage risks with complex matters that may impact the portfolios or organization.
The EMD may also partner with internal or external legal counsel to identify, manage or mitigate those risks.
Supports the Executive Medical Director, Quality & Patient Safety and the VP, Quality, Research, and Academic Affairs with physician engagement, addressing patient safety concerns and critical incident reviews, quality reviews, and related Accreditation processes, as required.
With the assistance of the Communications and Engagement Portfolio, supports interaction with the public, media, and other interest groups on matters affecting EMD portfolios.
Collaborates with the Southern Medical Program and the UBC Faculty of Medicine to facilitate successful achievement of shared academic programs and goals.
Considers the UBC and IH academic perspectives in strategy, planning, and promotion of clinical teaching and/or research opportunities and the recruitment of academic physicians.
Participates in Medical Leadership On-Call structures, on an equitable basis.
Completes other tasks as required from time to time by the VP, Medicine.
In alignment with IH's Occupational Health & Safety Program, maintain a healthy and safe work environment through complying with and implementing applicable Occupational Health and Safety Regulation, responding to requests from WSBC, identifying hazards and communicating risks, ensuring compliance with employee training, conducting effective incident investigations and implementing required corrective actions.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education, Training, and Experience
Current licensure as an MD in BC.
A Master's degree in hospital, healthcare, business administration, or an equivalent degree is preferred.
A minimum of 10 years of clinical practice experience and at least 5 years of progressively more responsible leadership experience in a healthcare environment.
