Details on our digital health strategy can be found here The Transformation leader role in R&D for Design and Planning, focuses on the most impactful area within R&D; helping x-functional R&D teams globally with digital, data and analytics to achieve study designs that have higher probability of success, accelerated timelines, reduced cost, improved patient experience and reduced carbon emissions. To date: teams at AstraZeneca can with new, internally developed products, such as Merlin, cost a study in a few minutes and access benchmarks to compare the study with similar prior ones. They can automatically run global feasibility to identify the best sites to run the study and easily access the designs, protocols and reports for similar studies. They can review how their study design compares with similar studies in respect of patient experience and carbon emissions , helping our patients and our planet. Next: we would like to take study design to a whole new level based on the significant progress we have made so far, including enabling our study design teams to;

  • Develop and review different study design options with insights provided automatically using data and analytics (End-points, assessments, time, cost, patient experience, probability of success, carbon etc.) including, recommendations for incorporating new innovative solutions available at scale in AstraZeneca (Decentralized/hybrid clinical trials, digital recruitment, adjudication with AI, synthetic control arms, etc.)
  • Assess designs to maximise probability of success using insights from real world data across global partners, on patient populations matching inclusion exclusion criteria, digital recruitment opportunities, etc.
  • Create a digital specification of the study design and plan to drive downstream automation of the study setup process
  • Experience transformed governance processes for study design, with reduced manual work and complexity, enabling teams to focus on the science vs the process steps to get to and through governance.
Moreover, this role will help to coordinate the portfolio epics across multiple products in digital health. This role will serve as head of products in digital health, with matrix reporting line to all product leaders, in order to improve the capability of product ownership in R&D, accelerate agility of products and improve overall outcomes. Typical Accountabilities:
  • Lead the cross functional teams supporting transformation programs in design.
  • Lead the strategy and vision for the products under this area, in collaboration with the senior leaders across all therapeutic areas in AstraZeneca and cross functional teams involved in study design and planning.
  • As the head of products, identify strategic issues for which Digital Health can deliver solutions and provide recommendations at digital health level across R&D.
  • Set clear strategic direction regarding the cross-portfolio backlog by clarifying priorities and rational.
  • Responsible for stimulating conceptual thinking and creativity across the team and challenging the status quo for continuous improvement.
  • Chair the product management guild, strong coach for product owners across digital health, partnering with IT and the Digital Health Business Agility Office to improve ways of working and the methodology applied by agile teams across the organization.
  • Influence key senior partners and provide clear & concise advice including recommendations to aid good decision-making.
  • Provide coaching & mentoring for colleagues and assist with their personal development.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree required or above in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of 8 plus years of relevant experience
  • Strong knowledge of pharma development processes.
  • Experience leader of cross functional global teams. Demonstrated leadership in developing strategy and vision within a large organization and delivery of outcomes.
  • Shown experience of lead Agile software development as a Head of product with clear outcomes on product delivery of outcomes and agility.
  • Proven skills and experience in defining a clear scope and roadmap to develop sophisticated solutions
  • Validated skills and experience leading and controlling sophisticated projects (with strong business and IT components) and activities in a multicultural context
  • Diligence – attention to detail and ability to run a large program of concurrent activities
  • Confirmed experience in applying a business-driven user-centric approach to product feature discovery and delivery.
  • Clear value delivery and quality on previous products.
  • Experience working in a large global organization where collaborators and project team members are geographically dispersed and handled through a matrix organization.
  • Outstanding communication, presentation, facilitation, storytelling, consulting and leadership skills and ability to interact with senior leaders
  • Excellent interpersonal and time leadership skills
  • Experience of defining the business strategies and influencing the key collaborators of the vision for the business area
  • Experience defining strategies and approaches to AI/ML model monitoring, maintenance and management
