Reporting directly to the Library Board, the Executive Director is responsible for the strategic leadership and operational management of the South Interlake Regional Library. This role oversees all aspects of library services, including policy implementation, human resources, financial administration, public relations, and facility management. The Executive Director also serves as Secretary to the Board and acts as the primary liaison with the public, government agencies, and professional associations.
Key Responsibilities:
Policy & Planning
Implement and advise on Board policies and directives.
Develop procedures to support strategic goals and community needs.
Review and recommend policy updates to enhance library services.
Human Resources
Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate staff and volunteers.
Ensure compliance with legislation and internal policies.
Foster a positive organizational culture and effective team dynamics.
Finance
Administer the library's operating and capital budgets.
Manage financial reporting, payroll, and benefits programs.
Seek and manage grants and charitable donations.
Utilize accounting and payroll software (e.g., QuickBooks, Dayforce).
Advocacy & Public Relations
Represent the library professionally to stakeholders and the public.
Develop and execute public relations strategies across multiple platforms.
Engage with patrons, respond to feedback, and promote library services.
Operations & Administration
Oversee library facilities and capital equipment.
Provide administrative support to the Board.
Liaise with the Public Libraries Services Branch and other associations.
Stay informed on technological and industry developments.
Qualifications:
Post-secondary degree in Library Science, Business Administration, or equivalent experience.
Minimum 5 years of management and supervisory experience.
Proven expertise in budgeting, finance, and HR management.
Strong leadership, strategic planning, and decision-making skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and accounting software.
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
Experience with grant writing, board reporting, and stakeholder engagement is an asset.
Familiarity with library systems and resource collections is preferred.
Work Schedule:
35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM (includes one-hour lunch break). Attendance at Board and Committee meetings is required.

$74,045 annually
