The Executive Director (ED) provides overall leadership, direction, and operational oversight to Wesley Community Homes. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the ED ensures that the organization fulfills its mission, meets all governance and compliance requirements, and operates efficiently and sustainably.
The Executive Director will lead the organization through its transition to in-house management, establishing internal systems, staffing structures, and service delivery processes aligned with legislative and funder requirements.
Key Responsibilities
1. Leadership and Governance
Provide strategic leadership in implementing the Board-approved strategic and business plans.
Advise and support the Board of Directors on policy, governance, and compliance matters.
Prepare and present regular reports to the Board on operations, financials, compliance, and risk.
Foster open, transparent communication between the Board, tenants, funders, and staff.
2. Property and Tenant Management
Oversee all property management functions, ensuring compliance with the Residential Tenancies Act (RTA) and Housing Services Act (HSA).
Manage tenant relations, rent administration, and leasing processes with fairness, respect, and efficiency.
Oversee timely unit turnover, maintenance scheduling, and adherence to preventative maintenance plans.
Ensure a coordinated response to tenant concerns, service requests, and after-hours emergencies.
3. Financial Management
Oversee all financial activities, including budgeting, accounting, rent collection, and expenditure control.
Prepare annual operating and capital budgets, ensuring fiscal accountability and transparency.
Monitor all revenues and payables, prepare quarterly and annual financial reports, and liaise with auditors and funders.
Ensure compliance with all reporting requirements from the City of Hamilton, the Service Manager, CRA, and funders.
4. Operations and Compliance
Establish operational systems that meet the standards required by the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Human Rights Code, and other relevant legislation.
Maintain all corporate records and ensure the timely submission of required filings, audits, and reports.
Develop and oversee service contracts, procurement processes, and vendor management in line with WCHI policy.
Implement and monitor policies and procedures that support quality assurance, tenant satisfaction, and organizational efficiency.
5. Community and Partnership Development
Strengthen partnerships with funders, housing providers, and social service agencies to enhance tenant well-being.
Represent WCHI in community forums and housing sector initiatives.
Support community development initiatives that promote tenant engagement and inclusion.
6. Human Resources and Organizational Development
Recruit, develop, and supervise staff and contractors, fostering a respectful and accountable workplace culture.
Ensure all staff training, health and safety requirements, and performance reviews are completed.
Promote equity, diversity, and inclusion within all aspects of the organization.
Qualifications
Minimum of 5-7 years of senior leadership experience in non-profit housing, property management, or community service delivery.
In-depth knowledge of affordable housing operations, including RGI administration, the RTA, and the HSA.
Proven track record in organizational leadership, financial oversight, and strategic planning.
Experience working with a volunteer Board of Directors and managing governance processes.
Strong understanding of facilities management, health and safety, and capital planning.
Excellent communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
Degree or diploma in Business Administration, Public Administration, Housing Management, or a related field.
Familiarity with the Hamilton housing landscape and municipal Service Manager reporting requirements is a strong asset.

Pay: $90,000.00-$115,000.00 per year
