Job Description

The Board of Directors invites applications for the full-time position of Executive Director at the Anishnabe Long-Term Care Centre (ALTCC), a small-scale seniors' care residence located in Timiskaming First Nation, Quebec.

Guided by the wisdom of the Medicine Wheel and the Seven Grandfather Teachings, ALTCC is dedicated to nurturing resident well-being through holistic care that honors Anishnabe values. Our mission is to create a welcoming, inclusive, and home-like environment where residents are supported physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. With community guidance, our vision is to restore Long-Term Care so that individuals remain connected to their community, family, and culture in all stages of life.

The Executive Director is the senior leader responsible for bringing this mission, vision, and our Code of Ethics into practice. This includes ensuring compliance with all legislative, policy, and certification requirements, working closely with Accreditation Canada. The role also has a strong focus on advocacy -- building relationships with government, band council, and stakeholders to secure sustainable long-term funding for seniors' care and advance our goal of bringing long-term care back to the community.

Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director provides strategic leadership, organizational oversight, and accountability for all aspects of the Centre. This position requires flexibility and includes an on-call component to address urgent matters outside of regular business hours.

Key Responsibilities



Provide strategic leadership and direction to advance the mission, vision, values, and Code of Ethics of the Anishnabe Long-Term Care Centre.

Ensure compliance with all applicable legislation, regulations, codes, directives, standards, certification requirements, and contractual obligations -- including working closely with Accreditation Canada. Oversee and support the delivery of high-quality resident care, ensuring a safe, respectful, and culturally sensitive environment for residents and staff. Advocate on behalf of the Centre by working with government, band council, and other stakeholders to secure long-term sustainable funding for seniors' care, with the goal of bringing long-term care back to the community. Attract, develop, and retain a highly engaged and skilled workforce, ensuring adequate staffing and access to ongoing training and professional development. Work collaboratively with the Financial Manager to plan, monitor, and manage the Centre's budget and financial performance. Maintain accountability for organizational policies, procedures, reporting requirements, and performance metrics. Oversee maintenance of the physical facility, equipment, and grounds to ensure safety, accessibility, and comfort. Foster open communication and partnerships with residents, families, community members, government agencies, and other stakeholders. Provide regular updates, reports, and recommendations to the Board of Directors and implement Board decisions effectively. Fulfill on-call responsibilities as required to ensure continuity of care and operations Champion resident rights by ensuring: Love: Residents receive quality care and meaningful daily life experiences. Qualifications



Education & Knowledge



A post-secondary degree in health, social services, management, or a related field (minimum three years in duration). A post-secondary diploma in health or social services (minimum two years) with significant leadership experience may also be considered.

Experience



Minimum three years of leadership experience in a managerial or supervisory capacity, preferably in health, social services, or seniors' care. Proven experience in organizational leadership, strategic planning, advocacy, and team development.

Skills & Attributes



Strong leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities. Excellent organizational, time management, and multi-tasking skills. Superior interpersonal and communication skills. Bilingualism (English and French, written and verbal) required; knowledge of Anishnabemowin or other Indigenous languages is an asset. Knowledge of Indigenous culture, history, and traditions is considered a strong asset. Financial literacy and knowledge of health-care related legislation and standards. Demonstrated ability to build partnerships and foster community engagement.

Work Schedule



Monday to Friday (8:00-4:00 or 9:00-5:00), with flexibility required for evening or weekend commitments, as well as participation in the on-call rotation.
