Job Description

The Ken Brown Recovery Home is an 18-bed supportive residential treatment program for men who are looking to recover from substance use disorder. We are a 90-day program that implements the philosophy of 12-Step Recovery to help clients see their futures with a sense of hope. Our services/programs include life skills, group therapy, anger awareness, relapse prevention, one-on-one counselling, and case management.

$37.13 per hour.

Purpose of Position:



To plan, develop, administer, and direct the effective delivery of supportive residential treatment programs and services for men seeking recovery from substance use disorder (SUD) in the province of Ontario, with preference to individuals from Sault Ste. Marie and the municipal district of Algoma.

Experience Required/Preferred:



Qualifications:

Master of Social Work (MSW); Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) with a strong understanding of Mental Health and Addictions; University degree in Psychology with a specialization in counselling. Must have relevant experience working within the field of Mental Health and Addictions (in-patient/outpatient) with a minimum of 5 years of experience. Valid Driver's License Valid Standard First Aid - CPR Level C & AED + Naloxone Training (proof upon hiring) Employment is conditional upon the provision of a clean Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) Strong understanding of all equity, diversity, and inclusivity legislation, policies, procedures, and guidelines. Knowledge and experience of addiction, recovery, understanding of the twelve-step philosophy and/or other programs of recovery are an asset. Knowledge or experience in congregate living settings, recovery homes/treatment facilities, community services, or other related employment/volunteer positions. A commitment to maintaining client confidentiality at all times. Must have strong interpersonal and relationship building skills for the purpose of developing therapeutic rapport, exercising empathetic communication skills, and establishing trust. Must possess strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with clients and colleagues. Must be self-motivated to work independently as well as collaboratively with other team members. Must possess a strong capability to practice emotional intelligence as well as establish and uphold professional boundaries. Must be proficient with IT and have a strong understanding of how to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:



The incumbent is responsible for the efficient management, administration, and daily operations of the Ken Brown Recovery Home Supportive Treatment Program and the Ken Brown Recovery Home Transitional Housing Program. Duties include but are not limited to:

Staff Recruitment and Management - Presently the Ken Brown Recovery Home is comprised of 13 employees:

(1) Addiction Counsellor (1) Intake Coordinator (1) Full-time Residential Care Worker (4) Part-time Residential Care Workers (1) Outreach Worker and Transitional Housing Support Worker (1) Part-time Office Manager (1) Part-time Registered Nurse (RN) (1) Full-time Kitchen Manager (1) Part-time Cook The development, planning, organizing, implementing, administration, monitoring, and evaluation of the 90-Day Supportive Residential Treatment Program and 6-Month Transitional Housing Program. The interpretation of Charitable Institutions Act, Ministry of Health regulations and policies, Ontario Ministry of Health Multi-Sector Service Accountability Agreement (MSAA), United Way policies, Algoma Public Health guidelines and procedures, and any other general welfare policies that apply to the effective operation of the Ken Brown Recovery Home Inc and Ken Brown Recovery Home Foundation. The review of operational policies and standard operating procedures and the submission of recommendations on revisions to the Board of Directors. The provision of a liaison service between the community and the KBRH to ensure effective service delivery and to ensure the development of supportive resources within the community. Participate in the screening, interviewing, and hiring of all applicants for full-time, part-time, and volunteer positions. Directing and overseeing the workflow of organizational staff members including professional training and development, assignment of duties/responsibilities, assessment and evaluation of staff members, assessment and evaluation of programs/services, scheduling, approving vacation/time off, payroll, reinforcing the language of contracts, supervise all activities and services pertaining to the Ken Brown Recovery Home. The preparation of annual budget estimates, administration of operational budget, and the approval of ordinary expenditures (extraordinary expenditures require the approval of by the Board of Directors). Engaging in community consultation regarding service to SUD clients, while enhancing community awareness of the KBRH and its primary functions/mission. Overall supervision of the Ken Brown Recovery Home and the Ken Brown Recovery Home Transitional Housing Program. Exercise signing authority as designated by the Board of Directors. Ensuring due diligence regarding the safety of all staff members and its residents. Ensuring the safeguarding of assets of the KBRH and its residents. Representing the KBRH at all levels of government, community services, medical facilities, certifying bodies, criminal justice system, self-help and 12-Step Fellowships/community, employers, and spiritual leaders. Performing related duties such as the development of financial and statistical reports pertaining to the administration of the KBRH. Other duties as necessary for the efficient operation of the Ken Brown Recovery Home Inc. and Ken Brown Recovery Home Foundation as assigned by the Board of Directors.
