Kids First Association Executive Director



Located in North Eastern Nova Scotia Kids First Association is a not-for-profit, family resource center, with a rich 30-year history of providing services and programs to families in Pictou, Antigonish and Guysborough Counties. Supporting the dignity of families and the dynamic communities in which they grow is the mission of the organization and the moral philosophy in which we operate.

The Board of Directors of Kids First Association is currently seeking a dynamic leader to fill the position of Executive Director. The Executive Director is responsible for ensuring the overall operations of the organization and managing the 25+ employees who deliver the programs of the organization. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the organization in their Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Accessibility (EDIA) strategic direction with an understanding of the importance of this work within community and throughout the organization's policies, practices and staffing.

Key Responsibilities:



Leadership in funder relationships

Human Resource management of 25+ employees

Financial accountability of a 1.3 million dollar annual budget

Preparation of budget, funder reports and administration of funding in accordance to approved budget and funder contractual commitments

Establishment and maintenance of community relationships, with a particular emphasis on marginalized communities

Reporting to the Board of Directors ensuring organizational viability and accountability

Core Skills:



Excellent oral and written communication skills

Demonstrated leadership skills

Experience in reflective supervision

Strategic thinker who can manage multiple tasks and changing environments

Excellent organizational and time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to deal with changing priorities

Experience in community development and connecting with stakeholders including government to create environments for program delivery and sustainability of the not-for-profit sector

Clear understanding of the social determinants of health, racial inequalities and intergenerational experiential trauma and how they relate directly to outcomes for families in our communities.

Education & Experience



Post secondary degree in health/human service, business or social work

At least 5 years of management experience including human resource and financial oversight

Demonstrated experience in leading staff teams through strategic change

Experience in work related to equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility and organizational change in the Nova Scotia context

This position can be placed throughout Northeastern Nova Scotia in the counties of Pictou, Antigonish and Guysborough.

Travel is required for this position.

Compensation : $ 73,000 to $80,000
