Feeder Associations of Alberta (FAA) Executive Director Position Feeder Associations of Alberta Ltd. is looking for a dynamic, talented, forward-looking individual to provide executive leadership to our team and programs. Feeder Associations of Alberta is a provincially mandated organization that derives its authority from the Feeder Associations Guarantee Act. Each year, the Feeder Association program supports the financing of hundreds of thousands of feeder cattle at lower interest rates based on a provincial loan guarantee. A financial organization at its core, FAA manages/coordinates and/or delivers four distinct programs:
  • Feeder Loan Guarantee Program
  • Alberta Breeder Finance Inc.
  • Western Cash Advance Program
  • Interest Rebate Program
Working out of its Leduc location, the FAA team also organizes and delivers the Annual Feeder Association Conference. FAA is governed by a Board of 5 Directors, elected from the five FAA Zones that represent 45 individual feeder associations. What Qualities Are We Looking For? We are looking for someone with both management and leadership experience at an intermediate to senior level. The successful individual will lead and motivate a team of eight individuals, with four direct reports, manage policy and program complexity, interact with the Board of Directors on a regular basis, represent and advocate FAA programs to the Government of Alberta, Government of Canada, the banking community, and local feeder associations. A financial background, with an understanding of credit arrangements would be a critical asset. While a detailed knowledge of the specific programs would be desirable, it should not be viewed as essential for applicants who possess other outstanding qualities. Leadership The successful candidate will be able to document proven leadership success at the intermediate to senior level. This includes such indicators as employee satisfaction, staff retention, a strategic focus, a supportive working environment, and the ability to motivate and inspire through articulating a compelling and shared vision. Management We are looking for someone with the capacity to set priorities in a fast-paced environment, manage the complexities of policy, program, marketing and finance, speak in a boardroom setting to both board members and senior officials, represent FAA to industry organizations and media, strategically plan and develop program and policy options for the Board, recruit and appraise staff, and ensure top quality service delivery to FAA\xe2\x80\x99s clients. Finance At its core, FAA is an organization that provides and manages financial credit. FAA is supported by an internal team of accounting staff, led by a CFO. The role of the Executive Director is to understand credit systems, organizational balance sheets, and with the support of the CFO provide clarity to the board on FAA\xe2\x80\x99s financial position as well as credit-based policy options. Some understanding of credit systems is a must. Agricultural Context FAA programs are delivered to agricultural producers across Alberta. A general understanding of agriculture in rural Alberta, an appreciation for the impact of agricultural policy changes, and a capacity to interact with producers on a regular basis are desirable attributes. Salary FAA provides a strong compensation program for its employees including health, dental, disability, matching RRSP, and paid vacation. ED salary will be commensurate with experience and skills, with a range of $120,000 \xe2\x80\x93 $130,000.
