Fort McMurray Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (FMSPCA)The Fort McMurray Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (FMSPCA) has an opportunity for a visionary leader to work directly with the Board of Directors to grow our organization by furthering its position of excellence and best practices among animal rescue and protection organizations and our community. Our facility in Fort McMurray provides a safe haven for hundreds of homeless, abandoned, and abused animals each year throughout the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.As Executive Director (ED) you will report to the Board of Directors as senior administrator in carrying out the organization's mission, vision and strategic plan. This is a high profile position requiring strong public relations, interpersonal and communication skills in building and nurturing collaborative relationships with a diversity of stakeholders and community groups who play an integral part in the FMSPCA.As a leader and mentor to our staff you will be accountable for providing strategic direction in organizational planning, policy and program development, human resource and financial planning and management, risk analysis and advocacy support. In preparing for the future of the FMSPCA you will mentor and oversee the coaching and developing of staff, growing tomorrows leaders.The successful candidate will have a combination of leadership experience, managerial expertise and if possible animal welfare background.The position is salary based on 40 hours with additional hours as required. Salary will be negotiated based on experience.1. Purpose of the Job: as Executive Director, carries out the FMSPCA mission, guided by the organization's guiding principles and strategic/operational plans to meet the FMSPCA goals and objectives for the successful operation of the organization.
1.1. The FMSPCA Board functions as a governing body setting policies and standards.
It is the responsibility of the Executive Director to:
1.2. Set operational procedures and directives for staff of the FMSPCA and contractors
1.3. Provides leadership to the organization as a whole, including staff and contractors; and support to the Board.
1.4. Provides skilled management of finances, human resources, programs and services. Responsible for staff supervision, guidance and problem solving.
1.5. Acts as advisor tot he Board to support their governance functions.
1.6. Serves as media spokesperson for the organization and maintains, adheres and promotes the organization's key messages. Communicates frequently and openly with the community, public at large, stakeholders and funders.
1.7. Networks with organizations to share ideas and collaborate to increase program and service effectiveness.
1.8. Responds to internal and external crises with effective problem solving strategies, calm manner and good judgement.
1.9. Critically evaluates the quality of all aspects of the organization; makes changes needed to create improvements in programs, financial stewardship (including budget development) and administrative efficiency.
1.10.
