As our organization continues to grow, we are seeking a passionate and skilled
Executive Director
to lead our society through its next exciting phase -- including the establishment and operation of our new child care centre.
Position Summary
The
Executive Director
serves as the senior leader of the Big Lakes Child Care Society, responsible for overall strategic direction, operational management, financial oversight, and community engagement. This position works closely with the Board of Directors to ensure that all programs, services, and policies reflect the society's mission and comply with provincial child care regulations.

Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Governance
Provide strategic leadership in alignment with the organization's mission and goals.
Collaborate with the Board of Directors on strategic planning, policy development, and governance.
Prepare and present operational, financial, and program reports to the Board.
Program & Operations Management
Oversee child care program planning, delivery, and evaluation in compliance with licensing and best practices.
Ensure inclusive and culturally responsive programming that supports all children.
Maintain accurate documentation for licensing, funding, and quality assurance.
Human Resources
Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate staff in collaboration with the Program Supervisor.
Promote a respectful and supportive workplace culture.
Ensure compliance with employment standards and HR policies.
Financial Management
Develop and manage the annual budget with the Board and/or Finance Committee.
Oversee payroll, accounts, and financial reporting processes.
Lead fundraising and revenue generation efforts.
Grant & Funding Development
Research, prepare, and manage grant applications through AGLC and other funding agencies.
Track reporting deadlines and maintain compliance with grant requirements.
Build strong relationships with funding partners to support long-term sustainability.
Health, Safety & Compliance
Ensure compliance with provincial licensing, health, and safety regulations.
Oversee emergency preparedness, incident response, and insurance coverage.
Maintain WCB and occupational health and safety standards.
Community Engagement
Build partnerships with families, local organizations, and government representatives.
Represent the society at community events and in advocacy efforts.
Promote programs and services through outreach and communication initiatives.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Certification, diploma, or degree in accounting, bookkeeping, or at least 5 years of relevant experience.
Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience.
Experience working with a Board of Directors and managing staff teams.
Assets
Diploma or degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE Level 3 preferred).
Diploma or degree in Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, or related field.
Skills & Competencies
Strong understanding of Alberta child care legislation and licensing.
Budgeting and financial management proficiency.
Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
Proficiency in QuickBooks, Excel, and general office technology.
Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities.
Additional Requirements
Current Standard First Aid & CPR Certification.
Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
Clear Child Intervention Record Check.
Working Conditions
Primarily office-based with regular interaction in child care environments.
Occasional evenings or weekends for meetings, events, or training.
May involve light lifting or physical activity in program spaces.
