This role is well suited to a leader who enjoys equipping and developing others and working closely with a Board, senior staff, and community stakeholders to maintain a safe, welcoming, and vibrant public harbour.

Position:

Part-time (~20 hours/week)

Reports to:

Board of Directors

Compensation:

$45,000.00-$50,000/year (0.5 FTE)

Position Summary:



The Executive Director (ED) provides overall leadership for Gibsons Landing Harbour Authority (GLHA) and serves as the primary liaison to the Board of Directors. The ED is responsible for organizational leadership, people management, governance support, and external relations, while overseeing GLHA's operations at a strategic level.

Working closely with the Board, the ED ensures the Board is well supported, informed, and positioned to govern effectively. Internally, the ED leads and develops the staff team, sets clear priorities, and ensures systems, finances, and relationships support the long-term sustainability and stewardship of GLHA.

Experience navigating government regulations, reporting requirements, and relationships with public agencies.

Harbour & Marine Awareness:



Knowledge of harbour operations, commercial fishing, or marine infrastructure to provide informed strategic guidance (operational execution delegated to staff) is considered an asset.

Qualifications:



Senior leadership experience in a nonprofit, public-sector, or community-based organization, with a proven record of organizational oversight. Demonstrated experience working closely with a Board of Directors, supporting governance and strategic decision-making. Strong financial literacy, including reviewing budgets, financial reporting, and ensuring responsible stewardship of organizational resources. Experience in strategic planning, systems improvement, and organizational development. Familiarity with harbour operations, commercial fishing, or marine infrastructure is an asset, with the ability to provide informed guidance at a strategic level. Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills with staff, Board, government partners, and community stakeholders. Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and prioritization skills in complex or multi-stakeholder environments. Values alignment with the Harbour Authority's mission, vision, and guiding principles, including stewardship, safety, and community engagement.
