RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC
The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Position summary
CANTRAIN (Canadian Consortium of Clinical Trial Training) is a national clinical trial training program (CTTP) in response to a call by the Canadian Institutes for Health Research (CIHR). Its vision is to offer the best, certified and standardized clinical trials' training and mentoring program across Canada accompanied by Internships for Trainees in a real-world setting.

General Duties
Lead executive manager of the entire Clinical Trial Training Program (CTTP) across the ecosystem in Canada, the recruitment and nurturing of its personnel, and the development and co-financing of Graduate (studentship and fellowship awards) and Internship programs for C&CRA (graduate students) and clinical research professionals (CRP), and the business development of Strategic Alliances, Public-Private Partnerships and Special Projects.

Reports to: Nominated Principal Applicant (NPA) who is the Chair of the Executive Committee (EC) and of the Directorate / Board of Trustees-Governors

PRIMARY ROLES:
The ED/COO with the NPA is to lead the capacity-building initiatives for frontline training and mentoring of clinical trial services alongside several initiatives inclusive of Awards and Internships.

This position engages various public-private partners to facilitate these activities at the national, provincial, and local levels, to an audience in both English and French. Management and partnership development and maintenance are key.

This position is at the core of interdepartmental work to:

  • Develop and execute creative strategies for virtual and occasional in-person education delivery,
  • Develop and leverage of opportunities and capacity-building in partnership with local, provincial,
and national service providers, and,
  • Implement and maintain Knowledge Mobilization and Translation (KM/KT) strategies.
SECONDARY ROLES:
  • Assume the role of Director for the development and operations of the Graduate Program
(Studentship and Fellowship),
  • Assume the role of Director for the development and operations of the dual (C&CRA and CRP)
Internships programs,
  • Assume the role of Director of business development, implementing strategic alliances, public-
private partnerships, and special projects.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES :
  • Developing CANTRAIN as a National organization, signs multiple public and private partnerships
and develops sustainability strategies over the next three years,
  • Maintains a strong understanding of Clinical Trial Training in assigned regions and sectors,
actively shares information internally, and acts as a resource for the regions/sectors for staff on
key organizations, programs, activities and contacts,
  • Develops and maintains partnerships for CANTRAIN with organizations conducting Clinical Trials,
  • Leads national topic-specific outreach activities to increase awareness of CANTRAIN services
(e.g., digital and other publications and activities),
  • Maintains national and provincial profiles for assigned regions / institution,
  • Develops a long-term workplan and operational plans in alignment with the pan-Canadian
strategy and considering the Canadian landscape,
  • Undertakes and maintains a detailed mapping of Canada's Clinical Trial training into the private
therapeutic areas ecosystem to identify areas of engagement
and funding,
  • Establishes a strong connection with private sector organizations to understand their need and
priority areas for clinical trial training prioritization and aligns this
with external opportunities to their organization such as CANTRAIN within Canada,
  • Forges strong relationships with universities, research organizations, and the broader R&D
industry,
  • Develops and effectively manages key strategic relationships with a broad range of senior-level
government, industry, academic and international stakeholders,
influencing complex groups of stakeholders both within and external to CANTRAIN,
  • Leads deliverables and discussions with the private sector in the context of the long-term
strategic collaboration into clinical trial training between industry and
CANTRAIN,
  • Presents opportunities and business cases from CANTRAIN to private Canada and Global R&D
and Business Development private sector teams,
  • Works across the matrix of employees in Canada and globally to enhance CANTRAIN offer,
leveraging synergies and emerging opportunities,
  • Liaises and is the primary point of contact - internally and externally - for all activities with
Canadian stakeholders, including University activities and business
development opportunities,
  • Drives and is accountable to deliver on related commitments,
  • Assesses and tracks performance of projects and develops plan to course correct if needed,
  • Supports and leads various scientific speaking engagements in the ecosystem, as relevant,
  • Oversees collaborations and investments into CANTRAIN to ensure the sustainability of
CANTRAIN,

In summary, coordinates and co-leads with PAs (principal applicants) Work Groups and/or Task
Forces defining the CTTP-CANTRAIN such as:
  • Public-Private Partnerships/ Government Affairs, and Strategic Alliances,
  • Engaging People, Patients, Families, and Community Engagement toward Equity, Diversity and
Inclusion Indigenous, and People of Color, Immigrants, Refugees,
minoritized, underserved and underrepresented Groups,
  • Global KM, Effective KT, Organizational Knowledge Transfer and Implementation,
  • Communications, Social Media and Content Strategist,
  • Policy, Ethics, Regulatory, and Legal Affairs,
  • Finance, Matching Funds & Funding Sustainability
  • CANTRAIN Program Evaluation.

Education / Experience
  • PhD in health sciences, public health, or a related discipline, and equivalent years' of
experience in business;
  • Occupied senior positions with over a decade of experience as CEO, CSO, Sci. Dir., etc;
  • Impeccable bilingualism (excellent functional French and English, spoken and written);
  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of provincial and federal government operations and
agencies, and academic institutions, regional health;
authorities and public-private interactions Canadian biopharmaceuticals and health
charities organizations;
  • Demonstrated experience with and ability to design and execute engaging, and useful
virtual and in-person educational and capacity-building initiatives;
  • In-depth knowledge of Clinical Trials' Training information, including that which reflects
CANTRAIN's mandate;
  • Understanding of Clinical Trials' Training related resources and services at the regional,
provincial and national levels in Canada;
  • Superior fluid written (demonstrated production of annual reports and strategic plans)
and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate in an empathetic
manner using clear, simple and sensitive language;
  • Demonstrated superior presentation and group facilitation skills;
  • Demonstrated senior experience in building relationships with strategic partners at
regional, provincial and national levels to inform and implement projects;
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and coordinate complex partnerships and networks;
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and prioritize projects efficiently;
  • Highly motivated, highly strategic thinking and skill at anticipating and resolving
stakeholder relation issues;
  • Ability and willingness to work weekends and evening hours;
  • Ability and willingness to travel within Canada several times per year.

Additional information

Status : Temporary Full-time, 3-year term
Pay Scale: Mid-point: $116,000 - Maximum: $151,000 + Benefits package
Work Site: The location of this position is flexible across Canada, can be remote, office (Montreal) or Hybrid.
