CADTH is an independent, not-for-profit organization responsible for providing Canada's health care decision-makers with objective evidence to help make informed decisions about the optimal use of drugs and medical devices in our health care system. Given changes in the pharmaceutical landscape, new and emerging opportunities for CADTH to work with Health Canada, the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC), Canadian Drug Agency Transition Office (CDA-TO), decision makers and health partners, additional centralized capacity is required to assess, plan for and support decisions regarding an organizational response.CADTH has offices in Ottawa and Toronto and most of our employees participate in a hybrid workspace arrangement (home and in office) that allows for flexibility and enhanced work/life balance. As such, CADTH gives preference to qualified candidates who live near our offices and can participate in a hybrid arrangement.Primary Focus
The Executive Business Writer will work closely with CADTH's President and CEO and Chief Scientist to produce executive-level content for internal and external audiences. The position will serve as a trusted communications adviser, analyzing situations, identifying opportunities, providing recommended courses of action, and developing and executing effective communications in support of CADTH's strategic plan.You must be a creative, driven, and enthusiastic communicator who can produce written content quickly with minimal oversight and editing, cut through scientific and academic jargon, align to strategy, and find new ways to insert CADTH into senior health care conversations.On any given day, you will:

  • Elevate the internal and external communications from the CEO and Chief Scientist to help build and strengthen CADTH's reputation and networks. Communication vehicles will include correspondence, briefing notes, presentations, speeches, editorials, and opinion pieces that support CADTH's strategic plan and priorities.
  • Develop strong relations with CEO, Chief Scientist, and CADTH subject matter experts to identify and develop executive content. Support and prepare the CEO and Chief Scientist for communications opportunities.
  • Identify and maintain a list of key stakeholders - monitor stakeholder communications and identify the announcement and opportunities that require response or outreach from CADTH.
  • Develop CEO and Chief Scientist communications calendar. Identify and evaluate communication opportunities, including media interviews, journal editorials, conference and meeting presentations, and internal activities. Establish and meet timelines and deadlines for communication deliverables.
  • Manage the production and cascading roll out of CEO and Chief Scientist communications, including copy editing, translation, production, and design.
  • Assist with CADTH's issues management lead by helping to identify, flag, and prioritize issues that could present corporate reputational implications.
The Executive Business Writer will likely have:
  • Completion of post-secondary education from a recognized academic institution in a related field such as public relations, journalism, or communications coupled with professional writing and/or corporate writing experience which is normally attained over a period of no less than 7 years.
  • Extensive experience researching, speech-writing, and editing communications content in a government office, higher-education institution, public relations agency, or other related environment.
  • Experience collaborating directly with senior-level administrators or executives
  • Proven research and writing skills under pressure and demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
  • Practical knowledge about social and traditional media - including Twitter and LinkedIn
  • Natural curiosity to investigate details and drive deliverables to completion
  • Strong understanding of executive voice and the ability to adapt the complexity, tone, and style of communications to suit different audiences
  • Ability to make links between external and internal communications
  • Attention to detail and a sense of urgency, strong work ethic and positive attitude
  • Effective time management and prioritization skills with a proven ability to balance and deliver on multiple projects
  • Experience establishing communications measurements, plans and tracking results and analyzing and reporting on outcomes
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills
Assets
  • Health care or government policy experience
  • Fluency in French
