Overview

The Examiner, Risk Management & Loss Prevention, is responsible for the oversight, investigation, evaluation and resolution of claims, loss prevention, analytics, deductible management & Loss Fund monitoring for the franchise and/or corporate program on a national level in partnership with Adjusting Service Providers. The Examiner should have a Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation from the Insurance Institute of Canada or be very close to completion.



What you'll get to do in this fast paced role:

This role will have varying elements of the below tasks, either directly involved or in an oversight capacity with the external service providers:

  • Manage diverse levels of liability, property, crime and equipment breakdown claims
  • Limit solicitor involvement by being attentive and building a rapport with injured customers
  • Work independently to conduct claim investigations; obtain and evaluate defence materials sourcing any documentation that may assist in defending claims.
  • Participate as part of the larger group in meetings with other RM team members to troubleshoot defence tools, ideas and share experience.
  • Obtain, review and interpret internal documentation such as leases and contracts as they pertain to a claim.
  • Oversee or determine the disposal of claims as outlined by the National Manager, Liability Risks keeping in line with our evolving litigation strategies.
  • Keep apprised of changes involving the Occupiers Liability Act, Civil Code and other rules of civil litigation on a national level
  • Ensure defence costs are minimized by having service providers obtain waivers, then legal opinions while continuing towards prompt resolutions.
  • When defence counsel is hired (upon approval from National Manager); establish defence strategy early on, ensure claim stays on track and counsel is firmly guided to follow the corporate litigation strategy.
  • Insurer to be notified of claims with potential to exceed our Self-Insured Retentions & deductible limits upon approval of National Manager and keeping in the parameters of our insurer claims handling agreements.
  • Create opportunities to present loss prevention strategies and educational materials to field personnel to minimize losses and preserve defence information when losses occur.
  • Track loss analytics creating useful reports and communicate with National Manager as well as our operations teams to present metrics designed to engage and motivate our retail locations to preform best in class, improving loss ratios steadily year to year.
  • Participate in annual insurance renewals, providing documentation on loss ratios and loss prevention strategies and improved performance metrics.
Job Requirements

What your resume will include and demonstrate to us:
  • An Undergraduate Degree and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
  • Completed or close to completion of CIP designation
  • The Examiner must have a thorough knowledge of the Corporation and the operations of the various Franchise banners, mainly focusing on the Franchise locations.
  • Strong background in property claims
  • Have proficient knowledge of property insurance policy wordings
