The Role
We are looking for someone to work with us to support a new winter experience. We are ideally looking for someone CURRENTLY based in or nearby Victoria, BC or Vancouver Island, who has strong event, technical and/or operations management experience to be our on-the-ground Event Manager for the new festival, which occurs in February. We may consider hiring someone based in Vancouver or nearby, who can travel to Victoria regularly and be on site in the leadup to the event.
We are looking for someone to work remotely between 10 - 40 hours a week. The hours are flexible, require some weekend work, a lot of flexibility as each week will be different and the hours will increase to full time as we approach the event. The Event Manager will have technical and operations management experience, able to be hands-on with every element of the event, engage with partners and represent The Wilder professionally, and support with all of the behind-the-scenes logistical work as we develop and execute the festival.
We expect the candidate to work on some or all of the following tasks:
Pre-event work from securing vendors, permits, creating site maps, planning equipment lists etc
Event administration - artist contracts, compiling event documentation, keeping track of schedules, contracts, reporting
Event production - setting up activations, event zones, liaising with artists and supporting their needs
Event coordination, logistics, volunteer and staff coordination
Site setup safety management, technical support, troubleshooting, being everywhere at once
We are looking for someone to join our team who possesses some of the following skills and interests:
Creative, even better if you have event production experience in creative fields or festivals (desirable but not essential)
Has a positive and can-do attitude, happy to help however and get stuck in as needed, no egos allowed
Must have a flexible work schedule as we will be busier closer to the event, and can align working time with our Director's work days and work virtually with the team regularly
Operate independently with motivation and drive, reporting to our Director but taking on projects and tasks independently and sticking to deadlines and managing your own workload
Can manage multiple tasks, making sure our events and activations run seamlessly, who can solve problems and adapt on the fly
Event management experience is absolutely essential - at least 3 years, working on large-scale events and/or festivals
Must be based in Victoria, BC, or Vancouver or nearby to travel to Victoria as necessary
Must be able to work from home and have your own phone and computer, access to internet
University degree in management, arts, business, or other

We expect that the candidate will earn somewhere in the range of $25-$35 per hour depending on their experience, and a fluctuating schedule from 10 - 40 hours per week depending on the time, and be on site for each night of our winter event. They will work remotely. We aim to create a positive, open learning environment where our team can shine and grow through our initiatives and we are flexible about who we take on as we love diverse skills and interests so we welcome applications from candidates who may fit some of the above but not everything.
We do have youth roles available with the PLT Canada program for candidates aged 30 and under who are Canadian Citizens/permanent residents/refugees. If you fulfill these criteria please note this in your cover letter or email. Fulfilling this criteria is not essential.
