Yukon University is seeking an experienced and community-minded Evaluation and Research Professional to join the Yukon Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research (YSPOR) SUPPORT Unit. Reporting to the Scientific Director, this position plays a central role in building research and evaluation capacity across the territory. You will work collaboratively with First Nations, governments, health organizations, and community partners to design and support culturally responsive, strengths-based evaluations and applied health research aligned with Yukon priorities.



This role requires a strong understanding of both Western and Indigenous research methodologies, a commitment to equity, and the ability to translate research into meaningful action for community wellness.



Key Responsibilities

Design and support evaluation activities with partners such as Yukon Government, NGOs, and First Nations to assess health and wellness programs. Co-develop evaluation frameworks, indicators, and data collection tools aligned with community values and strategic priorities. Provide technical support and mentorship to partners and junior researchers to build evaluation capacity. Lead data analysis, interpretation, and dissemination of findings through reports, publications, presentations, and community engagement. Respond to data and information requests ensuring ethical handling, relevance, and cultural sensitivity. Align project goals with YSPOR and YukonU strategic plans. Contribute to community-driven research initiatives, involving patient and community partners. Develop project proposals and contribute to securing external funding. Supervise and mentor student researchers and research assistants. Ensure compliance with Yukon University ethics policies, OCAP principles, and funding guidelines.

Qualifications and Experience

PhD in a health or social sciences-related field preferred, or equivalent combination (e.g., Indigenous knowledge keeper or Master's degree with 5+ years of experience). Proven experience in program evaluation with government, First Nations, or NGOs. Strong skills in quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods research. Understanding of ethical and culturally responsive research, including OCAP and Indigenous data sovereignty principles. Demonstrated ability to translate research findings into action. Experience partnering with Indigenous communities and governments. Experience supervising students or junior researchers. Strong academic writing and communication skills. Familiarity with federal and territorial research funding processes.

Assets

Knowledge of health research in Yukon. Experience with community engagement and patient-oriented research. Experience writing grant proposals and securing research funding. Familiarity with knowledge mobilization strategies and stakeholder communications.
