About Our Opportunity

The ETL Developer is a senior technical resource in the Data Governance and Management division at DHW. In this role, you will be responsible for the development and maintenance of data extract, transform, and load (ETL) processes. You will work with stakeholders throughout DHW and the broader health sector, to translate business requirements into technical requirements for customised data feeds and products.

In this role, you will have a contributory impact on the health system\xe2\x80\x99s analytics functions. Your expertise and leadership will enhance health system planning and management capabilities; strengthening our health information systems.

Primary Accountabilities

Your key responsibilities will involve the development, operation, and ongoing sustainment of DHW\xe2\x80\x99s health data warehouse, including custom data products for DHW program areas and the broader health sector. You will lead large data transformation activities using proven technology to design, build, implement, and operate cross-Health System data products.

Using your expert data transformation knowledge, you will help facilitate evidence-based decision making to inform strategic policy throughout DHW. You will achieve this by:

  • Collaborating with colleagues and stakeholders to define technical requirements for the health data warehouse
  • Researching and monitoring industry best practices and trends relating to delivering data products and services
  • Developing ETL packages and data pipelines to integrate disparate data sources into a data warehouse platform to support business reporting, analytics, and strategic decision-making
  • Create and execute test-cases for unit and integration testing within the data warehouse
  • Assisting with creation of standards and practices for ETL design and implementation
Qualifications and Experience

As our next ETL Developer, you have a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in information technology, computer science, or engineering and 5 years related experience; or have graduated from a recognized Information Technology Program + 5 years and 6 months related experience. Experience in database or data warehouse design and implementation as well significant experience working closely with various stakeholders.

We are looking for an experienced ETL developer who has excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, operates easily in a matrix capacity, enjoys working in an innovative environment, and is a self-starter.

You must be able to demonstrate your experience with ETL development and data integration. Furthermore, you:
  • have several years\xe2\x80\x99 experience with ETL/data integration
  • have experience working with dimensional data models and other analytic data structures
  • have experience creating, executing, and documenting test cases for data integration
  • possess deep knowledge of and experience with SQL programming and SSIS
  • are proficient with Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • are flexible and adaptable to changing priorities and competing deadlines
  • possess superior communication and relationship building skills
Familiarity with Microsoft SQL Server, the Kimball data warehouse architecture method, TimeXtender (formerly Discovery Hub), Tableau Server, and other programming languages (Python, PowerShell, etc.) would be considered assets.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Working Conditions

Most of your time is spent in a comfortable office setting with some site visits as required.

Your normal work week is 35 hours/week, 7 hours/day (and may require availability 24/7 during times of emergency and working overtime on occasion).

Pay Grade: PR 17

Salary Range: $3,091.70 - $3,631.17 Bi-Weekly
