Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Project Estimating
• Prepare estimates of probable costs of materials, labour and equipment for construction projects based on contract bids, quotations, schematic drawings, and specifications.
• Prepare quantity take-offs and preliminary project schedule.
• Prepare, examine, and respond to tenders.
• Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors.
• Liaise, consult, and communicate with engineers, architects, owners, clients, contractors, and subcontractors, and prepare estimates on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.
• Prepare blue books for each accepted project and attend job transfer meetings with Project Managers and Job Site Foremen.
• Attend site visits to assess job-site conditions.

The specific competencies required include :

Decision-making
• The Estimator works with pre-determined estimation procedures and guidelines that support his or her decision-making. The Estimator makes decisions and prepares reports based on recognized FundyPros estimating practices.
Safety Requirement
• The Estimator sometimes works with the clients and/or contractors on their project sites at which time he/she is required to follow safe work practices such as wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment required at these locations and following safety regulations.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
• The Estimator's work is normally completed within the office environment.
Staff Development and Leadership
• The Estimator position receives general supervision and direction from the President. The Estimator implements and follows established estimation practices, policies and procedures set by FundyPros. The Estimator is not required to supervise employees.
Education and Expertise Required:
• The Estimator position requires that the incumbent have a thorough knowledge of the construction and drywall industries. The incumbent:
• Must hold a diploma in drafting, engineering and/or construction related fields.
• Have a minimum of 3-5 years' work experience estimating medium to large scale construction projects.
• Must have a proven ability to read and interpret building drawings and designs.
• Competence in the use of word processing and spreadsheet software (Microsoft Office)
• Excellent competence in the use of the Internet for information research, E-mail, and IT systems generally
