Job Description

Reporting directly to the Estimating and Shop Manager, the Estimator will support the pricing and cost of construction and fabrication estimates in accordance with client specifications and requirements. Tasks will include, but not be limited to: material and activity takes-offs, estimate template creation/completion, interfacing with vendors and subcontractors, as well as continual timely communication with clients and CEI stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Estimating, proposal coordination and closing of assigned RFP's
  • Coordination of vendor and sub-contractor requirements
  • Understand the overall scope of each assigned RFP
  • Determine material, equipment, labour requirements, sequence of operations, projected timelines and prepare a detailed proposal
  • Participate in review meetings for each assigned RFP including pre-bid coordination
  • Participate in the preparation of subcontractor RFQ packages and provide an evaluation of all bids received
  • Participate in post-bid meetings & review processes
  • Present estimates and conduct review meetings with clients
  • Transfer successful quotes to project management. Assist in the project start up. Liaison contract conditions and project timelines as they change
  • Provide technical assistance as required in negotiating contracts, change orders, etc.
  • Establish unit costs, labour rates and productivity factors
  • Evaluate and recommend allowances for indirect costs, design unknowns, escalation and contingency
Requirements
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings
  • Sense of urgency is critical in this role, many requests are time-sensitive and require the ability to manage time and prioritize tasks.
  • Shop & field experience in coordination is an asset
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with clients and stakeholders
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment
  • Sound knowledge of computer software such as Microsoft Office Suite, Google Sheets Bluebeam
  • Ability to read and interpret client supplied RFQ specifications, PFD's and PID's
  • Working knowledge of the following codes;
  • ASME B31.3 Process Piping
  • ASME B31.5 Refrigeration Piping
  • ASME Section VIII Division I
  • CSA B51
  • CWB Structural Codes
  • Knowledge of oil and gas process equipment, instrumentation and electrical practices
  • Mathematical skills and analytical skills necessary to create material and labour estimates and interpret job cost reports.
  • Ability to use cost-estimating software to prepare cost quotes and bids.
  • Effective verbal and listening communications skills.
  • Time management skills and the ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects effectively.
  • Proactive in ensuring job knowledge is current.
  • Detail oriented, self-motivated and able to accommodate shifting priorities
Qualification Requirements:

Post Secondary graduate in either:
  • Construction Management Technology or equivalent
  • Engineer Design & Drafting, Mechanical Design, Civil Design or similar program;
  • Engineering E.I.T. (Mechanical/Civil/Structural);
