The Estimator is responsible for analyzing project drawings, specifications, and other documents to prepare accurate cost estimates for curtain wall, window wall, storefront, and entrance systems. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of architectural aluminum systems and construction industry practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Review architectural drawings, specifications, and tender documents.
Perform detailed quantity take-offs of aluminum, glass, and hardware components.
Analyze scope of work and identify any exclusions, assumptions, or clarifications.
Prepare accurate and timely cost estimates and bid proposals for commercial projects.
Coordinate with suppliers and subcontractors for pricing on materials and services.
Collaborate with project managers, drafters, and production staff to ensure estimate alignment with execution plans.
Maintain a database of historical pricing, vendor quotes, and project results for future reference.
Assist with value engineering, alternative pricing options, and budgeting.
Attend pre-bid meetings or site visits when required.
Stay up to date on product knowledge, material costs, industry standards, and market trends.
Qualifications:
Minimum 3-5 years of estimating experience in the curtain wall, window wall, or aluminum glazing industry.
Knowledge of commercial construction, aluminum systems (e.g., Commdoor, Alumicor, Kawneer, YKK), and installation practices.
Proficiency with takeoff and estimating software.
Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawings.
Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
Strong communication and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple bids under tight deadlines.
Familiarity with Ontario Building Code and construction practices.
Preferred Qualifications:
Engineering, Architectural Technology, or Construction Management background.
Experience working with ERP systems or project management tools.
