Job Description

Dexter Construction is a large, diversified Construction Company engaged in all major aspects of the heavy civil construction industry within the Atlantic Provinces. We are currently seeking an Estimator for our Amherst, Nova Scotia location. Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• Prepare cost estimates for construction projects and report to the area manager on the company\xe2\x80\x99s status against and ability to meet the projected bid forecast budget and operational objectives to be successful in the tender process.
• Read blueprints in order to estimate project cost effectively;
• Liaise with subcontractors and trades on various estimates towards the construction project;
• Communicate and collaborate with departmental leaders to stay abreast of construction needs, budgeting, and evaluation of possible bids;
• Collaborate with the project management team to develop cost estimates for all operational aspects of the bid process;
• Manage and develop project estimates, forecasts.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, and Experience:

• University degree in Civil Engineering or other Construction Management program is preferred;
• Extensive experience estimating provincial and municipal asphalt projects.
• Ability to work as part of an estimating team;
• Knowledge of various Estimating software such as i.e. Timberline, Prolog or Primavera;
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills;
• Professional attitude, punctual, assertive and personable;
• High level of sound and independent judgment and reasoning;
• Ability to respond in pressure situations with a calm demeanour and high sense of urgency

• construction estimating: 1 year (preferred)
