JOIN OUR TEAM! We are looking for a motivated ESL Instructor to join our Engage-Hospital Employees Union (HEU) Language Training project team!
POSITION FUNCTION:

  • Delivery and facilitation of an online-learning ESL class to HEU members. The class is fully online with 5.5 hrs/wk asynchronous learning on Moodle LMS and 2 hr/wk of synchronous workshops via Zoom.
  • Meet the specific needs of HEU members by conducting needs assessment and responding to those needs
  • Create a warm, inclusive and safe online learning environment
  • Assess and provide feedback to students using Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) indicators and Portfolio Based Language Assessment (PBLA).

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Excellent pedagogical knowledge and experience in online instruction using Moodle and Zoom
  • Recognized undergraduate degree and a TESL Canada recognized TESL certificate or a clearly documented equivalent.
  • At least 2 years of experience teaching adult ESL, particularly using student-centered, participatory methods. Community-based, settlement and Literacy ESL experience an asset. Working knowledge of the CLBs (Canadian Language Benchmarks) and PBLA (Portfolio Based Language Assessment).


HOURS: 17.5 hours per week - This is a fixed term contract from January 2, 2024 until June 14, with the possibility of an extension to December 20, 2024. The successful candidate may be permitted to work a hybrid work model (combination of in-office and remote work).
BENEFITS:
A competitive benefits package is provided with contracts of at least 1 year in length and which offer a minimum of 17.5 hours of work per week.
