Now Hiring for a Position at the Miramichi Regional Multicultural Association (MRMA)

English Second Language Instructor

MRMA is currently looking to employ an English Second Language (ESL) instructor to provide English language lessons to adults from different backgrounds and cultures. The ESL teacher will be responsible for planning lessons and activities and motivating adults to learn English.

A successful ESL teacher should be able to create an environment that is conducive to learning. An ESL teacher should work towards encouraging students to interact with each other to improve their English skills, and to gain confidence to use these skills outside of the classroom.

ESL Teacher Responsibilities

• Conducting activities and lessons based on ESL teaching methodologies.
• Preparing the classroom and materials using provided ESL curriculum/program.
• Encouraging and engaging adults to speak, write and read in English.
• Motivating adult students and creating a pleasant learning environment.
• Displaying excellent classroom management.
• Keeping accurate records of student performance.
• Tracking student progress through standardized guidelines.
• Maintaining records of student attendance and assessment levels.
• Meeting with individual students as required.

ESL Teacher Requirements

• University degree in Education or English or a similar field.
• Previous experience as an ESL teacher or similar role.
• ESL Certification (i.e., TEFL, TESOL) will be an asset.
• Excellent command of the English language.
• Proficiency in Microsoft applications will be an asset.
• Great organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to teach adults from different backgrounds.
• Ability to work evenings, as this may be a requirement.
• Display patience and cultural awareness.
