This role is key to developing and implementing our Train the Trainer program, which focuses on building the competency of front-line supervision in overseeing safe and efficient heavy equipment operations. This role will also assist in developing task-specific trainers for specialized equipment operations as needed. This position requires regular travel to various project locations to deliver training, provide on-site coaching, and support the consistent application of company standards across all operations.
Responsibilities
Program Development & Delivery
Lead the delivery of the company's Train the Trainer program for supervisory staff responsible for managing equipment operators.
Evaluate current site leadership training gaps and develop action plans to address them.
Provide hands-on, classroom-based, and field-based coaching to improve supervisor competency in equipment operations oversight.
Assist in developing and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Safe Work Practices (SWPs) for heavy equipment operations.
Ensure training is aligned with company policies, client expectations, and regulatory requirements.
Project Engagement & Competency Verification
Travel to project sites to assess equipment operator competency through practical evaluations and observations.
Support Foremen and Superintendents in conducting equipment operator assessments and reviews.
Provide ongoing coaching to site leadership on how to deliver high-quality, task-specific training and oversight.
Identify situations where Subject Matter Expert (SME) Trainers are required and assist in developing these roles
Program Management & Reporting
Maintain accurate training records, evaluation reports, and competency tracking documentation.
Provide regular status updates to the Safety Management Team and Project Leadership.
Work collaboratively with HR and site teams to schedule and track training activities.
Technology & Continuous Improvement
Learn and utilize the company's Learning Management System (BisTrainer) to manage training content and reporting.
Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in training delivery and workforce competency development.
Stay informed on industry best practices and regulatory updates related to heavy equipment safety and training.
Additional Responsibilities
Support broader Safety Department initiatives as required.
Assist in the development of training materials for other operational areas as needed.
Act as a positive ambassador of the company's People First and We Lead values.
Requirements
15+ years of experience in heavy industrial or construction environments, preferably with equipment operations oversight.
Strong understanding of heavy equipment safety, operation, and regulatory requirements.
Proven experience delivering training to adult learners, including practical and classroom settings.
Strong communication, coaching, and interpersonal skills.
Valid Driver License to travel regularly to remote project locations.
Must pass pre-employment and pre-access drug and alcohol tests including cannabis
Preferred
Certification or experience with Train the Trainer programs.
NCSO (National Construction Safety Officer) certification or willingness to obtain.
Experience using BisTrainer or similar Learning Management Systems.
Knowledge of equipment inspection practices to reduce breakdowns and increase operational safety.
