We are currently seeking an individual to assume the demanding and fulfilling position of Equipment Operator II with the Roads & Sidewalks Division of the Public Works and Engineering Department.
Under the general supervision of the Superintendent and direct supervision of the Supervisor, Roads & Sidewalks, the Equipment Operator II operates primarily as a road grader and excavator (backhoe). This includes operating a diesel powered road grader to maintain gravel road surfaces in a smooth and drivable condition and operating an excavator to aid in repairs of waterlines and other excavations as required, ploughing ice and snow during the winter months, and servicing the equipment. The incumbent will also be required to operate other equipment, which may include loaders, dozers, street sweepers, and vactor trucks. This position will also perform manual duties related to Roads & Sidewalks operations and construction and will be required to work shift work and a rotating standby schedule.
The work requires a valid Class I Driver\'s Licence with air brake endorsement and manual transmission and at least two years of equipment operation experience. Preference will be given to applicants with a Journeyman Certificate in Heavy Equipment Operation. A demonstrated ability to operate a grader and excavator on municipal streets is required.
