Rogers is seeking an Equipment Engineering Standards Specialist reporting to the Manger, Equipment Engineering Standards, National. The specialist will be accountable to select equipment, produce engineering standard and guideline required for any moves, additions, and changes to support capital build programs on the Wireless Access Network. The successful candidate will possess strong communication skills and technical acumen to drives results and have the ability to lead through influence, build strong relationships and work collaboratively with all levels of the organization.

Detailed responsibilities include:

  • Source, compare, evaluate, and approve new infrastructure and inside plant equipment for Wireless sites location.
  • Responsible for lab test, field trial and complete network integration of new equipment into the network.
  • Prepare standardized documentation (detailed installation guideline, network standards, user guides, etc.) for equipment installed in the network.
  • Understand and explore products that supports inside plant needs, including:
  • Alternative power (solar, wind, AC and DC generators, new energy type, off-grid systems)
  • Batteries hardware ( incl. Li-ion ) and back up standard rule and calculation.
  • Controllers and system monitoring/management devices.
  • Free Air Cooling & HVAC systems. Thermal analysis.
  • AC Power (entrance dimensioning calculation, transfer switch, generators)
  • DC power systems hardware and load calculation.
  • Equipment enclosures (shelter, walk in cabinet ,cabinet, leaseholds)
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation based on product revision to ensure that access network documentation is current.
  • Provide support to Operation technicians, project coordinator and field contractors in answering technical questions related to new product deployment.
  • Regular interaction with various vendors, engineering departments, field operations, project management, procurement, and other internal customers in resolution of engineering problems and issues associated with existing or new product.
  • Support regional Equipment Engineering team for special sites design or cost study and tools requirement. Any knowledge in NRM and SpatialNet tools will be an asset.
  • Provide forecast (In coordination of regional teams) for long lead time items.
Key Qualifications:
  • Electrical Engineering degree or equivalent in Building or Environmental Engineering.
  • Working knowledge of telecom and construction industry codes and standards, including relevant CSA standards and the Building Codes.
  • Good understanding of Telecommunication Engineering Concepts for Wireless cell sites including knowledge of Power systems, Batteries, Generators, Renewable Energy, Controllers and firmware, Routers (Cisco), Cabinet/WIC types etc.
  • Professional Engineering designation an asset
  • Valid driver's license
  • Any experience in engineering, building, or maintaining large telecommunications networks preferably in a wireless technology environment will be an asset.
  • Knowledge of IP network will be an asset.
  • Strong problem solving, troubleshooting decision making skills
  • Strong technical writing ability.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Knowledge of French will be an asset.
  • Advanced level Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and Access) and database applications.
