Our commitment to employment equity helps achieve inclusion and fairness, brings rich diversity to UBC as a workplace, and creates the necessary conditions for a rewarding career.Job SummaryThe BCCDC is seeking an enthusiastic and highly qualified applicant for the full-time position of genomic epidemiologist to fill an exciting new position working on a public health monitoring program to (1) evaluate trends over time and space of genetic mutations from samples taken in clinical settings, (2) understand community-level disease transmission through integration of diagnostic to whole genome sequencing laboratory data, (3) assess the burden of severe diseases associated with specific genetic variants and identify those targets most likely to resist pharmaceutical interventions, (4) assess the long-term effect of respiratory diseases in the context of post-COVID-19 pandemic, including long COVID burden. The Research Epidemiologist is responsible for conducting research and epidemiology tasks on complementary COVID-19 projects including vaccine effectiveness.The ideal applicant will possess a curiosity and passion for science, a talent for independent and team-based research, and extensive knowledge and experience in both molecular laboratory methods relevant to medical microbiology and epidemic intelligence processes relevant to public health practitioners and policy makers.Organizational Status
The incumbent will report directly to the Director, Data Science Innovation, at the BC Centre for Disease Control, who is also an Adjunct Professor at the UBC School of Population and Public Health. The incumbent will also communicate regularly with other Principal Investigators of the public health investigation and will interact and work closely with the research team, biostatisticians and provincial partners.Work Performed
