Building on our momentum in combatting the SARS-CoV-2 virus, EPIC will marshal the advanced research infrastructure and the world-renowned research and training expertise of our partner institutions to allow an integrated, innovative response to infectious diseases.

The four pillars of EPIC\'s work includes:

  • Training & Talent Development: EPIC will offer immersive and cross-disciplinary training to a diverse cohort of talent in infectious diseases. Hundreds of researchers, clinicians and lab staff will gain access to leading-edge technologies, develop the skills to turn discovery into solutions, and connect Canada to global networks of pandemic surveillance and response. We will help propel a new generation of infectious disease research leaders.
  • Transformative research: EPIC will foster opportunities for networking, cross-connection and integration of multiple scientific disciplines to address infectious diseases. Through targeted funding to facilitate novel collaborative research projects, regular seminars and symposia to share research and amplification of research outputs and impacts, EPIC will accelerate innovation in interventions and preventions for infectious diseases
  • Knowledge Translation: EPIC will expand the role of our institutional partners as knowledge brokers. It will provide commercialization training and connection to industry partners to support our members in the development of novel therapeutics, interventions, diagnostics and vaccines. New researchers at EPIC will be equipped to explain bench science to decision-makers and the public, as well as to translate discoveries into made-in-Canada products and solutions to global health challenges.
  • Infrastructure: EPIC aims to support infectious disease research by helping to provide access to cutting-edge technologies and research facilities. Chief among these is the Toronto High Containment Facility (THCF), Toronto\'s only Combined Containment Level 3 (C-CL3) facility for research of high-risk and emerging human pathogens has been critical infrastructure for our community to contribute to the understanding of many pathogens, including HIV, the bacteria that causestuberculosis, SARS-1, SARS-CoV-2. It has also provided the lab space to develop therapeutics and treatments for those infections and served as a central component to the research response to SARS-CoV-2 for many academic, governmental and industrial partners. EPIC is leading the development efforts for a revitalized and expanded THCF to expand and continue work on emerging human health threats to ensure that we are prepared for future pandemics.
Your opportunity:

This role reports to the Director of EPIC and supports EPIC\'s mission by administering the various research grant and scholarship programs. Your ability to logistically coordinate a diverse set of funding calls, workshops, seminars, project planning milestones and networking events, with frequent competing deadlines is key to the success of EPIC\'s mission. You will draw upon strong communication skills, both written and interpersonal, to advise and inform faculty, staff, learners and other stakeholders to build and sustain a culture of research excellence.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Acting as the first point of contact and administering the day-to-day processes for research funding competitions, funding opportunities, and scholarship programs
  • Coordinating the review processes for research funding competitions, including organizing grant review panels, distribution of review packages and compilation of review results
  • Drafting documents for knowledge translation purposes, including supporting documents for annual reporting or partnership advocacy and keeping detailed records
  • Generating reports on funding activities, and determining benchmarks and metrics
  • Tracking and collecting information on funded project progress
  • Gathering input from stakeholders to inform special project implementation and preparing documents for leadership to review
  • Coordinating tasks for projects and other strategic initiatives (i.e., events and programs) with stakeholders
  • Drafting and delivering presentations to promote programs, opportunities, and/or initiatives
  • Fostering positive relationships with project partners
Essential Qualifications:
  • Bachelor\'s Degree in science or in a related field or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum three (3) years\' experience in funding administration or related experience, preferably in an academic environment.
  • Demonstrated experience drafting written documents, including funding proposals and annual reporting documents
  • Proficiency with generating reports for decision making purposes.
  • Strong experience coordinating project tasks, including planning and implementing project phases.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience fostering and sustaining relationships with internal and external contacts.
  • Strong time management skills to achieve results and to meet critical timelines in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Proven organizational skills, ability to adapt to constantly changing priorities, manage multiple projects concurrently, and complete work in required time frames.
  • Strong computer skills including MS Office, CMS (Drupal)
Assets (Nonessential):
  • Knowledge of the Temerty Faculty of Medicine and the University of Toronto.
  • Masters Degree in a scientific field preferred
