LaPrairie Works Inc. is a diversified and growing civil maintenance and construction contractor with over 37 years of operating experience across Western Canada. Our core businesses include Mobile Crane & Rigging, Highway Infrastructure Maintenance and Construction, On / Off Highway Bulk Commodity Hauling, Specialized Heavy Hauling, Oilfield Services, Mine Contracting, Proppant Supply and Logistics, and General On-Site Services.

We are looking to expand our operations areas and are preparing a response to an RFP announced by Parsons Corporation for the Giant Mine Reclamation Project.

As such, LaPrairie is looking for qualified professionals to join our Team should we be successful in procuring the contract for this project.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Site Supervisor, the Environmental Technician will oversee compliance with Environmental regulations and be the primary contact for environment-related policies, programs, assessments and investigations on site.

Duties & Responsibilities, Include, but are not limited to:

  • Adhere to and follow all Client and LaPrairie\'s policies and procedures, with a strong focus on safety and environment polices
  • Ensure all site employees and visitors adhere to and follow all Client and LaPrairie\'s environmental policies and procedures
  • Provide information applicable to Environmental legislation, regulations and policies to management and site staff
  • Ensure appropriate decontamination and dust samples are taken and recorded
  • Ensure air monitoring is being performed and recorded
  • Track the quantity of waste materials including collected fugitive dust sent for on-site storage
  • Provide waste management reporting and record keeping
  • Develop and implement a site-specific environmental plan and contribute to the development of the Emergency Response Plan.
  • Ensure and monitor that work is performed in accordance with Environmental rules and regulations
  • Provide support in the development of Hazard Assessments Processes prior to work commencement and throughout the project.
  • Conduct environmental safety assessments and audits on a regular basis
  • Ensure any corrective action is completed in a timely manner
  • Produce all required reporting in a detailed, accurate and timely manner
  • Maintain all required documentation related to site assessments, audits as per document control guidelines
  • Conduct environmental training and orientation for site staff and visitors
  • Assist in the permitting process as required
  • Conduct and/or attend regular safety meetings
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Must possess knowledge of requirements of the Water License MV2007L8 -0031 and associated documents
  • Minimum 2 years progressive experience conducting environmental field activities or in an environmental training program within the mining or construction industries
  • Standard First Aid certificate in god standing
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office productivity suite.
  • Must work independently and plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, procedures, etc.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral & written).
  • Strong critical thinking, troubleshooting, presentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and meet the time demands of unpredictable activities capable of handling pressure and challenges.
  • Comprehensive understanding of local, territorial, and federal construction regulations.
