Reporting to the Senior Environment Coordinator, the Environmental Technician is responsible for assessing and supporting ongoing management and compliance associated with Teck's Cardinal River mine.

To be successful, we are looking for a team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, who can collaborate with internal operations and project teams, and also liaise with the public, clients and government agencies. The successful individual would be a self-starter who remains positive and motivated in inclement weather at outdoor, remote locations. This person would also have strong analytical and decision-making abilities with a proven capacity in practical problem solving.

In this position, you will be working at one of Canada's most unique mine sites in active closure. This position is critical to the execution of regulatory approvals and licenses, including closure and reclamation plans.

This role is based in Hinton, Alberta, supporting Teck's Cardinal River mine, located near the Hamlet of Cadomin, Alberta. Come join a tight knit environment team of professionals who are passionate about addressing complicated environmental challenges, utilizing cutting edge technology!

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Implement and provide technical direction for multiple, broad based sampling and monitoring programs
  • Conduct inspections and efficiency checks to support process and regulatory compliance
  • Coordinate and supervise contractors to ensure work is being conducted safely and in accordance with authorizations and project scope
  • Understand applicable approvals, licenses, and associated requirements to support ongoing compliance
  • Lead all aspects of routine maintenance, repair, and calibration of monitoring and sample collection equipment and instrumentation
  • Develop and implement effective processes to implement and integrate projects with operations
  • Develop and review Environmental Protection Work Plans
  • Analyze field and analytical data to draft technical reports and communications
  • Educate on environmental matters and facilitate compliance assurance with departments on site
Qualifications:
  • Diploma or Degree in Environmental Studies, Earth Sciences (Biology, Geography, Geology, Forestry, Agriculture), or related Natural Resource field
  • Minimum two years of experience in the field of environmental compliance or monitoring, in an industrial environment
  • Experience in environmental project management
  • Experience with environmental data management software (GIS/EQuIS) and proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license
  • The ability to safely operate different equipment, such as 4x4 1-ton trucks, boats, augers, and snow machines, would be an asset
