Reports to (Title): Director, Environment & Permitting or Delegate
Job Purpose
Reporting to the Director, Environment & Permitting, the Environmental Superintendent provides environmental leadership and support to the site operations teams of the Premier Mine to meet environmental, safety and production targets. The Superintendent will ensure the mine site follows all environmental permit conditions, applicable legislations, and agreements with stakeholders.
The Superintendent will foster a health and safety culture of No Harm while ensuring compliance with safety and environmental provincial and federal regulations, legislations, and policies.
This position works a two week on and two week off rotation at a remote mine site in Stewart BC.
Key Job Functions
1. Lead and supervise Premier Gold Mine Environmental Team in conducting work required to achieve compliance with permit conditions, regulatory requirements, legislation commitments and agreements with First Nations and community stakeholders.
2. Monitor environmental conditions on site and report non-compliances and environmental incidents internally and externally.
3. Develop and evaluate environmental training programs and provide orientation and training to staff and contractors to communicate the site's environmental requirements, policies, and standards prior to work commencement.
4. Perform regulatory research to determine site compliance requirements with all environmental permits and legislations.
5. Establish and maintain strong working relationships with site operational teams, regulatory bodies, key stakeholders, service providers, local communities, First Nations, and all levels of staff to ensure a strong environmental focus and culture.
6. Develop and conduct a range of environmental testing and data collection associated with on-site environmental monitoring activities, including: site hazardous waste management, erosion and sediment control, Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) management.
7. Implement, monitor, execute, and retain records for environmental requirements for daily, weekly, and monthly site field inspections, audits, training, risk, and hazard assessments to ensure compliance on-site and supports management with follow-up and recommendations for corrective and preventative actions.
8. Compile and maintain registers for environmental regulatory requirements and permit applications.
9. Review and update the site risk register, ensures that principal risks are mitigated and communicated to the workforce.
10. Regularly prepare reports to keep all stakeholders informed on the progress of site environmental performance and conditions.
11. Provide input into the department budget and cost controls.
12. Direct the day-to-day activities of any direct or indirect staff, including training, coaching and mentoring of direct reports.
13. Assist with and participate in the hiring and onboarding process for Environmental staff.
14. Conduct activities per Ascot Resources policies and values and provides leadership related to Ascot's values of No Harm.
15. Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications Required
Education/Professional Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related Natural Resources Management field or equivalent through work experience
A minimum of 7 years of experience (including 2 years of management experience) in environmental roles, preferably in mine operations, mine project development or construction.
Experience working with environmental approvals and government bodies.
Experience managing multiple and complex projects to professional quality.
Extensive proven knowledge and understanding of Environmental Management Systems requirements, Environmental and Safety legislation, standards, Mines Act, and effective mining industry practices.
Proficient in Microsoft Office.
Valid Class 5 BC driver's licence or equivalent.
Preferred:
Other relevant tertiary education.
Experience in underground mining, exploration, or drilling activities.
A combination of education, skills and experience may be considered.

Pay: $110,000.00-$140,000.00 per year
