The Opportunity:




The Environmental Specialist I will provide basic technical support to the Environmental Specialist Level 2 and 3 with the development, execution and monitoring of environment related projects and programs in the City of Airdrie.



Responsibilities include:

Assist with regulatory application reviews, surface and groundwater assessment reviews and overall watershed management Assist Environmental Policy and Compliance staff with inter-departmental relationship building to advance environmental initiatives and assure environmental regulatory compliance Support multiple internal departments in various capacities during the development process. This may include reviewing Phase 1 and 2 Environmental Site Assessments, Biophysical Inventories and Biophysical Impact Assessments, Soil Assessments, Geotechnical Investigations, and Historical Resource Impact Assessments Assist City representatives on external environmental boards and committees which includes assisting with external programs and projects Review, research, and collect information and issues relating to realms of the environment: biophysical, contaminated sites, water resources, etc. Interpret regulations as they relate to the city Support external consultants

You Bring:



Diploma or degree in environmental science or a related field including Sustainability, Engineering, Science, Biology, Resource Management, etc. Eligible for professional accreditation (or in-training) in one or more of the following: P. Ag., P. Biol., P. Eng., EP, PMP, etc. Valid Class 5 driver's licence Minimum 1 to 3 years' practical experience in supporting and coordinating environmental projects and applications, including some practical field experience in: wetland identification, wildlife surveys, soils, water quality monitoring, air quality monitoring Demonstrated working knowledge of Federal, Provincial and Municipal environmental regulations and acts Experience in stormwater management plans, erosion, and sediment control plans Experience in watercourse rehabilitation, wetland management, riparian area management Familiar with remediating contaminated sites would be considered an asset Some understanding of areas including air, water, soil, and applicable regulations Experience with GIS (ArcGIS Pro) Strong computer skills Strong oral and written communication skills Comfortable and effective in presentations

Additional Information:




This is a full time position of 37.5 hours per week.
