What will you be doing!

  • Supporting the implementation and continual improvement of the Environmental Management System at Whiteshell Laboratories in alignment with ISO 14001 principles.
  • Coordinating internal and external ISO 14001 audits and environmental compliance evaluations.
  • Developing and updating environmental aspect assessments and operational control documentation with facility managers.
  • Delivering Environmental Management System training to internal staff.
  • Gathering and evaluating radiological and non-radiological effluent monitoring results across multiple media.
  • Diagnosing causes of monitoring excursions and promoting corrective and preventative improvements.
  • Monitoring for conditions that could lead to unintended environmental releases and investigating incidents as they occur.
  • Preparing correspondence, performance reports, and summary documentation related to environmental monitoring and EMS performance.
  • Contributing to the Annual Compliance Monitoring Report to ensure submission to the CNSC by April 30.
  • Preparing and issuing the Annual Environmental Monitoring Report to the CNSC by June 30.
  • Providing specialist environmental protection support to facility managers to support the fulfillment of management responsibilities.
  • Supporting assigned project teams with environmental oversight and expertise.
  • Other duties as assigned by your Manager.
What we are looking for:
  • Education
  • University degree (four years) in Environmental Studies or a related scientific discipline, including Physics or Chemistry.
  • An equivalent combination of education and a minimum of ten years of post-educational experience in environmental management will be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience
  • Demonstrated a strong understanding of environmental management principles.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with environmental monitoring techniques and programs.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Applied knowledge of applicable federal, provincial, and municipal environmental regulations to support continuous compliance.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with Environmental Management System requirements, considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of radiation protection principles is considered an asset.
  • Willing to complete and successfully completed formal and on-the-job Radiation Protection training relevant to the role.
  • Ability to work effectively as a well-organized, self-motivated team member in operational and decommissioning environments.
  • Demonstrated strong individual accountability and commitment to achieving team and organizational goals.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's "Standard on Security Screening" and the "Policy on Government Security."
